BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under limited supervision, develops, plans, coordinates and manages hospital safety programs, including the management and implementation of those programs to ensure the safety of the hospital’s physical environment for employees patient’s and visitors, and to ensure compliance with applicable hospital policies and local regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on hazardous materials used in the workplace.
2. Doing routine safety inspections.
3. Keeping Safety required records on accidents and maintenance.
4. Monitoring of employee exposure to hazards.
5. Employee Safety Training/Hazard Communication (“Haz Comm”).
6. Maintaining and purchasing personal protective equipment.
7. Helping to solve workplace safety problems.
8. Maintaining Safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)
9. Oversees the supervision of assigned personnel, which includes hiring work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
10. Coordinates the division annual budget and assists in the development of capital expenditure budgets related to environmental, health and safety programs; develops and justifies budget requests.
11. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
12. Establishes and implements short-and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program/project effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
13. Ensures contractor code compliance by managing the interaction between departmental personnel and contractors, facility planning and physical plant personnel.

Basic Function:
