- Coordination with Client and Supply & Service Companies (SSCs) regarding identification of sites/selection of farmers for installation of High Efficiency Irrigation Systems (HEIS), watercourse improvement, and provision of LASER units and to assist and guide the OFWM and SSCs’ field staff to execute works as per standards and specifications as described in Project PC-I
- Checking feasibility of sites for HEIS installation (available sources of water & power, pumping unit, filtration & fertigation units, pipe network, control valves, safety & monitoring equipment etc.) and reviewing surveys (topographic, profile/longitudinal, bench mark etc) in the field conducted by field staff of OFWM & SSCs and measuring discharge of different irrigation outlets.
- Review and approval of designs and cost estimates of (1) HEIS schemes after modification for optimal designing of pumping system and pipe network after hydraulic calculations, (2) lined & un-lined watercourses (rectangular, trapezoidal, precast concrete parabolic & RCC pipe), (3) storage reservoirs, (4) road culverts (5) water control structures & drop structures (6) buffalo wallows etc.
- Verification of (1) HEIS material/equipment, (2) construction material of watercourse improvement delivered at site for their quality and quantities as per project standard & specifications and recommending interim payments to SSCs.
- Spot checking during installation of HEIS schemes (i.e, pumping unit, filtration & fertigation units, pipe network, control valves, safety & monitoring equipment etc.) and on-going civil works on watercourses for quality assurance of construction material (bricks, cement, sand), execution of civil works as per designed bed & slope, appropriate alignment and designed x-sectional/ physical parameters following the project standards and specifications, observance of quality control measures (soaking of bricks, mortar mixing, mortar mix ratio, curing etc. and general workmanship).
- Ensure installation of water control structures as per standard & specification and proper installation and jointing of precast concrete parabolic segments.
- Certification of civil works at various agreed stages of their construction for recommending releases of interim payments to Water User’s Associations.
- Final verification of HEIS schemes after performing commissioning/test run as per design parameters and verification of all completed civil works in terms of their quality and quantity for recommending releases of final/remaining payments.
- Quality assurance of precast structures i.e, RCC Panel Naccas, Precast Concrete Parabolic Lining Segments (PCPS), their fabrication at yards as per approved drawings, adaption of quality control measures (good quality concrete ingredients, concrete mix ratio, water cement ratio, appropriate curing etc.), quality check of PCPS at yard through slump test, schmidth hammer and core testing.
- As member of Rate Assessment Committee, actively participating in rate assessment of various construction material used in watercourse improvement and that of material used in HEIS schemes.
- Random lab testing of HEIS material to confirm compliance of prescribed standards/specifications.
- Inspection of the LASER Units to ensure delivery of the same to the farmers in conformity to the approved standards and specifications.
- Keep close liaison with project stakeholders including project management, SSCs and farmers.
- As member of Pre-Qualification Committee at Provincial level, participated in pre-qualification of SSCs/Firms for HEIS installations and manufacturing of PCPS.
- Involved in training of OFWM professionals and SSCs’ field staff regarding designing of HEIS and watercourse lining.
- Participation in development of manuals for designing, installation, O & M and irrigation scheduling for drip and sprinkler irrigation systems.
- Prepared monthly/quarterly progress reports and financial and physical reconciliation reports.

Worked on a project titled “NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR IMPROVEMENT OF WATERCOURSES IN PAKISTAN - THE PUNJAB COMPONENT (NPIW)”.

Main Project Features

- Formation/Registration of 30, 000 Water Users Associations at each watercourse/irrigation scheme level to involve the water users in implementation and O&M of the rehabilitated watercourses.
- Improvement of 28, 000 watercourses in the canal irrigated command areas and installation of 2, 000 irrigation schemes in barani tracts of Punjab Province.
- Installation of water control structures in lined and earthen sections of the rehabilitated watercourses.
- Construction of social structures along the rehabilitated watercourses which include; washing pads, buffalo wallows, road culverts etc.
- Provision of Laser units to the farming community.


Duties and Responsibilities

- Ensured fabrication of standard naccas dies to produce standard sized naccas throughout the project area.
- Periodic inspection of PCPS moulds in yards to rectify any deformation in the moulds so as to get PCP segments fabricated as per standard size/shape.
- Ensure installation of water control structures as per standard & specification and proper installation and jointing of precast concrete parabolic segments.
- Certification of civil works at various agreed stages of their construction for recommending releases of interim payments to Water User’s Association/Suppliers.
- Verification of all completed works in terms of their quality and quantity for recommending releases of final/remaining payments.
- Notification of non-compliance of project specifications to concerned authorities.
- Financial and physical reconciliation of all civil work activities at end of each fiscal year.
- As member of Rate Assessment Committee, actively participating in rate assessment of various construction material used in watercourse improvement.
- Ensured transparent utilization of funds by the Water Users Associations (WUAs).
