• Perform preventive maintenance on testing machines to maintain their performance and avoid production issues.
• Responsible for Thirteen Flying Probe testing machines, make sure they are operating all the time and supply their defected hardware by working with the machine suppliers also replace defected hardware.
• Perform routine daily checkups on testing machines and address any issue with machinery or operators.
• Debug testing programs to cover part changes on assemblies and make sure they are covered in the test plan for the future lots to be tested.
• Troubleshoot failing boards with test techs using lab equipment such as multimeters, LCRs and prepare rework instructions for production cells to fix the issues.
• Perform machine diagnostics on machine circuit cards and replace them as needed.
• Work with suppliers on repining of HP testing fixtures to improve test results and fixture performance during the test and avoid production delays.
• Train operators on how to operate testing machines, check for defected parts like testing probes and probe wires that can cause issues with testing results and isolate the issue down to the specific defected part.
• Perform capacity analysis for In Circuit Testing “ICT” area to make sure we have right amount of machinery and operators to cover increasing production demands.
• Schedule supplier visits to perform machine calibrations and routine checkups.
• Lead design efforts from proof of design to proof of manufacturing and work with stakeholders to make sure design deliveries meet our deadlines.
• Setup design rules for ECAD group to follow during the placement/routing phases of the Printed Wiring Boards based on IPC standards and board stackups provided by suppliers.
• Review Gerber files and Printed Wiring Board routing data using mentor graphic tools and make sure designs meet our producibility and specification standards.
• Work with Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) on change notices and flow them to ECAD group to update Electrical drawings.
• Manage sub-tier suppliers and resolve fabrication issues in timely manner to avoid delays and meet schedules.
• Create Printed Wiring Board and Circuit Card Assembly drawing notes and flow them to ECAD group to prepare and release final drawings.
• Work with Component Engineering group on performing health assessments for design electronic parts to make sure lead/surface finishes are acceptable and avoid risk of using pure tin parts that can grow tin whiskers.
• Review supplier’s first article inspection data to make sure data meet our MIL and IPC specifications and provide written approval to ship final finished boards.
• Lead meetings with core team to review and approve Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and work with Configuration Management personnel to make sure TDPs get released.
• Work with supply chain planners on Printed Wiring Board/Circuit Card Assembly quotes and on placing Purchase Orders based on schedule and cost.
• Modified assembly handling fixture that resulted in reducing defects and a $40, 000 cost savings.
• Modified drag solder fixture that resulted in eliminating defects due to improper board loading and damaging printed board assembly solder lands.
• Led the build of the first Orion flight Vehicle Management Computer (VMC) and delivered to test team two weeks ahead of schedule.
