Learning Coordinator/Process Instructor (On Secondment to Qatar Petroleum)

Working as Learning Coordinator/Process Instructor on secondment to Qatar Petroleum’s Training Centre, Doha-Qatar in collaboration with Wood Group, UK. Responsible for Process Training to the new Qatari School / College graduates
using Competency Based Teaching and Training Programs. The job involves:
• To coach and develop local Qatari Trainees in the class room training and work-place
• To verify and ensure discipline-specific technical standards of Competency based training and development programmes are being met and competence gaps identified and eliminated
• To act as a Professional Discipline Trainer to all the trainees in that discipline and their Line Managers with a focus on motivating, counseling and supporting them in their learning and development roles and responsibilities
• To support and help in the On-Job Coaching responsibilities through preparation of learning materials, advice and recommendations based on the requirements of Competency Based Programmes
• To oversee the Trainee’ Off-Job Training Plan for Discipline to ensure the training is delivered at the right stage of development and meet the standards of the Competency based training programmes and to evaluates such training and recommend changes where necessary
• To contribute to identification of cases for high potential and accelerated development for talent and to resolve the cases of poor performance, redirection and disciplinary action of trainees
• To act as Internal Verifier and Independent Observer of Assessment and Verification Procedure
• To ensure effective follow-ups of the trainees from point of entry to final and Independent Status and the tracking of their areas of improvement and devise programmes of remedial action and gap elimination accordingly
• To provide career counseling and professional development advice to the trainees Independent status, including learning resources
• To maintain a systematic reporting in all Professional Discipline Trainees development performance and progress up to achievement of Independent status
• Class-room teaching and Work-Place Learning for the Trainees for TAFE’s Certificates-1, 2 and 3
• Record keeping and preparation of Training Progress Reports against the established targets and standards
• Major duties include imparting Class-Room Training and evaluation of the trainees recruited for various hydrocarbon related industries in Qatar
• Developing Performance Tests to evaluate the Trainees Knowledge and Progress
• Planning, organizing, formulating, implementing and maintaining Qatar Petroleum’s management system
• Motivating the Trainees in order to bring them to an acceptable operations standard.

enhancing Oil recovery and its optimization and Fuel Gas system for various prime movers.
Glycol de-hydration and re-generation system for the process gas before utilizing it for gas lift

Production, dispatch and related calculation work of Oil and Gas wells, making daily, weekly and
monthly reports for the management.
b. Turbines / Compressors: Various types of Power Turbines, Gas driven Turbines and Process Gas
Compressors.
c. Sphering / Pigging: Involved extensively in Oil / Gas sub-sea pipelines sphering / pigging operations.

2. Auxiliaries:
Tempered / Sea water cooling pumps / systems for process gas heat exchangers / coolers, Instrument air systems, water de-salination, Chlorine production / injection system and Air Conditioning system.

3. Safety System:
Thorough knowledge and operation of the philosophy for Emergency Shutdown and Blow-down systems as per
the cause and effect charts.
Toxic / Flammable gas detection, Fire / Smoke detection and BCF / BTM Fire Suppressant systems.
Fire water pumps, Deluge system, Emergency shutdown system, Escape Capsules, Life Rafts and related
Production Station safety shutdown system at Offshore and Onshore fields.

4. Major Shutdown for Construction and Maintenance Activities:
Preparation for isolation, flushing, gas freeing and inerting operations.
Authorizing Work Permits, co-ordinating major overhauls, shutdown construction and up-grade activities, start-ups and writing procedures for safe and efficient operation and trouble-shooting of various problems.
Responsible for the execution strategy of shutdown work-scope.

5. Commissioning:
Extensively involved in the supervision and commissioning of new Projects and Ventures with multi-national, multi-cultural and multi-lingual work-force for tie-in and start-up of new projects.
Prepared and developed the procedures for pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and shutdown of the plant.

6. Plant Changes:
Suggested improvements thereby reducing the operating costs and man-hours.
Implemented and enhanced the safety and operability of the plant.

7. Evaluation of Drawings and Manuals:
Appointed as board member to review, correct and suggest improvements in the writing of the Oil / Gas
facilities Manuals, Process / Instrument / Flow diagrams especially incorporating process up-grades and changes.

8. Trained Nationals:
Trained many young nationals / Trainees in the Oil and Gas fields.
Monitored and assessed On-the-Job Training (OJT) programs in the Offshore Oil and Gas fields.
Wrote OJT Manuals for the trainees.


Deputed to work for Occidental Petroleum (Qatar) Limited - OXY on secondment from January 1995 to
July 1998 to look after the Process Operations of the new Oil / Gas field, Suggest and enhance means for better Productivity, Expansion of the field operations and preparation of the Technical Manuals and implementation
of the safe working practices.
