RESEARCH ENGINEER في THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS at EL PASO
  • الولايات المتحدة
  • يناير 1988 إلى سبتمبر 1990

Civil Engineering Department

• Reading similar published research articles in Delaminations of Concrete Slabs and attended related courses in Geophysics. When fresh concrete is placed and compacted, the solids (cement and aggregate) settle. This natural settlement causes excess mix water and entrapped air to be displaced (called bleeding), and the lighter materials migrate toward the surface. If finishing operations start prematurely and close or seal the surface before bleeding is completed, air and/or water are trapped under the densified surface mortar. As concrete hardens, subsurface voids develop where the water or air is trapped. These voids create weakened zones right below the surface that can eventually detach during slab use. Thin mortar layers over delaminations may even detach when struck with a hammer, as you try to sound out the extent of the delaminated area.
• Research in delaminations of concrete slabs for Bridges all over Interstate-10 in El Paso, Texas (Texas Department of Transportation) using computerized sound waves.
• Determination of inhomogeneity and malformed layers in slabs of concrete bridges by coring anticipated areas. To achieve a quality surface, remove the defective concrete to a depth where only sound concrete remains. Proper removal of unsound concrete by suitable methods such as shot blasting, grinding, or hydro-demolition.
• Inspection of internal cracks in concrete slabs, collected data, and adopted trends of technical hints and made judgmental explanations. After proper removal of unsound concrete, apply a new surface. The slab can be ground smooth and sealed, resulting in an attractive final surface with an exposed aggregate appearance. Bond a topping or concrete overlay to the prepared roughened surface. Apply resurfacing products to bond to a sound substrate and provide an attractive surface.
• Fracture Critical Member Inspection Training and Experience.

ماجستير, Civil Engineering
  • في Oklahoma State University
  • ديسمبر 1987

• I received Research and Teaching Assistant ships. January 1987 – December 1987 (1 year) RESEARCH: • COMPARATIVE STUDIES IN DEFORMATIONS & FATIGUES DUE TO TRAFFIC IMPACT & DYNAMIC LOADS ON BRIDGES. • It is well known that long term movements of structures can be monitored using a total station. • Comparative Studies in this field proved that measuring slow dynamic deformation is possible in long bridges. • Measurements are taken over minutes, hours or weeks to a number of targets to measure settlement or long term permanent deformations. • The segmental, cast-in-place concrete cantilever bridges has shown some propensity to develop larger deflections than those were predicted in the design calculation. Excessive deflections may lead to deterioration of aesthetics, serviceability problems and eventually early reconstruction of the bridge. Also in the construction stages the deflections have to be properly compensated to achieve the smooth camber in the completed bridge deck. • Deformation prediction in concrete cantilever bridges is not as reliable as it would be necessary due to several factors. The high degree of uncertainty in creep and shrinkage prediction in concrete constitutes the major difficulty. Other factors are the complex segmental construction procedure and the sensitivity of the deformations to variations in the construction schedule, the uncertainty in estimating the frictional loss of Prestress and relaxation in the Prestressing tendons and uncertainty in estimating model parameters such as temperature and relative humidity. • Effects of Increasing Truck Weight on Steel and Prestressed Bridges produce extra Fatigue on the details of steel bridges which is the primary mechanism for deterioration. Researchers attempted to collect information about all bridges and analyze the entire group for fatigue effects in light of requests for increased load limits. • Tau Beta Pi Member of Civil Engineering Honor Society.

ماجستير, Civil Engineering
  • في MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
  • أغسطس 1986

Took graduate Courses in Civil Engineering. January 1986 – August 1986 (8 months) RESEARCH ASSISTANT • Performed Lab research in fiber reinforced concrete structures; Fiber reinforced concrete is a composite obtained by adding a single type of steel or synthetic or a blend of both fibers to the concrete mix. • Conducted Concrete lab tests for various types of structural elements; Steel fibers are used to reinforce the concrete adding mechanical properties for structural design purposes. Synthetic fibers are added to the concrete to control the effects of moisture and water lost in the first stage (24 to 72 hours) of curing. • Studied behavior and compared strengths of fiber reinforced concrete slabs, columns, beams, cylinders, and foundations. Adding fibers improve mechanical properties to increase toughness, ductility, flexural resistance, tensile strength, and shear resistance, and it can improve control for the effects of Fatigue, Impact, Shrinkage, and Fire resistance. - Chi Epsilon, Vice President. - Civil Engineering Honor Society.
