I am currently a Senior Audit Associate at KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co. in Karachi. I act as an auditor in-charge on some of the largest financial services clients of our local office, reporting to the Audit Manager and sometimes directly to the Partner. Last year, I was seconded to KPMG Abu Dhabi office for a period of three months where I was handling non-financial services audit.
My role is to lead a team (usually consisting of 3 - 4 staff members) through the planning, execution and completion stages of statutory audits, review of financial reporting packages (required for group reporting) and other reporting as required by group auditors. In addition, I assist my manager with
engagement management, managing client relationship, co-ordination with professionals in various fields like legal (obtaining lawyer’s response and discussing it with the lawyers at times), actuarial, IT experts and decision-making for resolution of critical reportable matters.
My audit experience has exposed me to practical implementation and complexities of International Financial Reporting Standards and best practices in respect of financial management, corporate valuations and risk management. The professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan & ACCA also include detailed examination of these standards.
