Responsible for setting up the construction and engineering desk as this was a new sector focus for GRG.
Responsibilities include:
• Market research to determine the most favorable market for our services
• Business development to build a client base
• Client liaison to determine the clients exact needs
• Negotiating terms of business
• Advertising and networking to build a candidate base to draw on for roles - also involves referral and headhunting services
• Candidate interviews to ensure that only the best quality candidates are sent to the clients
• Candidate consulting to ensure they stand the best possible chance during interviews and CV setup
• Client consulting to provide market information on salary ranges and the types of candidates available.
• Resourcing for our sister company (A global contracting business) with construction professionals for their projects in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Libya. Positions range from Project manager to C-level.
Due to the head office of the company being based in New Zealand, it was difficult to effectively provide service to our customers in the MENA region; my role was to ensure that all the customers within the region were kept satisfied with our products and assist them with any issues that may arise in a timely manner.
Responsibilities include:
• Remote site technical assistance over the internet or phone, when beyond the ability of their maintenance team I was also called out for onsite support, where I was required to go onsite and repair the problem or begin the process of resolving the issue.
• Responsible for the commissioning of any new machinery bought within the region, and I was expected to fly to the location of the machine to do a full commission and training the customer’s staff. Locations include Indonesia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, Turkey, Cyprus, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kenya and Tanzania.
• Training clients on Quality assurance and best practices in production and maintenance of their machinery
• Training on the use of the CAD software used for designing the buildings
• Educating clients on methods of construction and various materials and products available to them
• Building strong relationships with our customers and gathering information which will ensure the company aligns its products and services to suit the needs of the customers and ensures the future success of the company.
• Co-ordinating the onsite callouts and managing the schedules of 3 technicians.
• Generating quotations for spare parts or other consumables, and control these orders and stock levels of spares in the office.
• Responsible for sourcing suppliers within region that could offer products at acceptable prices and of high enough quality.
Assist Camp manager with general management duties on site. The company provides general mechanical, electrical and plumbing works for NATO forces military bases in Afghanistan.
• Assist in controlling 9 tradesmen; plumbers, electricians, masons and carpenters, and 10 to 15 Afghanistan labourers.
• Was in charge of controlling petty cash and recording any purchases made by the company and paying the labour their wages.
• Was in charge of stock control, general liaison with clients, and ensuring that any projects undertaken by the company is within the high standard of the military.
• Assigning tasks to the tradesmen, keeping time sheets and ensuring that projects are performed to health and safety standards accepted by the military.
• Quality assurance was a high priority due the high expectation of the NATO forces.
• Working closely with the clients to understand their requirements and find opportunities to sell them more services
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on plc controlled, cold steel roll former machines, involving hydraulics, electrical, computer and mechanical systems.
• Keeping stock of spares on construction sites, ordering required spares, and general maintenance of equipment.
• Supervising production, quality of product, supervising of labour (+- 100).
• Trained in determining site completion percentages, including production and erection of buildings. Control of stock and labour. Allocation of resources to obtain specific mile stones.
• Commissioning of mechatronic steel roll-former machines, including loading firmware and linking plc controller with the controlling laptop, and calibration of machine to ensure the production of an accurate product.
• Developed a maintenance manual to train new maintenance staff members, and a calibration manual to ensure that the maintenance supervisors follow the correct procedures when calibrating the machines.
• Experienced in working in ISO 9001 standards.
• Experienced with working with labour and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including the UK, South Africa, Korea, India, Pakistan, M.E countries and Nepal (which make up the bulk of the labour force)
