PRINCE SULTAN MILITARY MEDICAL CITY: PSMMC is the main tertiary hospital in Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia, located in Riyadh, with a capacity of about 2000 beds distributed between its 2 parts (the General hospital and Prince Sultan Cardiac Centre).
The General Medicine Department has different subspecialties in addition to internal medicine which include: pulmonology, haematology rheumatology, gastroenterology & hepatology, endocrinology & diabetes Mellitus, oncology, and dermatology. Occupying about 600 beds distributed between the different areas and buildings of the hospital. The flow of patients is around 30 to 50 patient a day to all internal medicine divisions.
• My activities as internal medicine consultant differs according to the site where I am assigned:
• during on call duties I receive calls from residents and registrars to clear diagnoses, and agree upon initial management plans of admitted cases. patients are usually of wide range e.g., chest pain, heart failure, renal failure, syncope, diabetic ketoacidosis, toxins ingestion, drugs overdoses, strokes, bronchial asthma, COPD, septicemias and septic shocks, aggression etc..; simply we see all varieties of medical cases.
• As tertiary care Centre we receive fax referrals of complicated cases from all over the country looking for better management.
• I used to participate actively in all the activities in the department e.g. moderate daily morning discussions of cases and case presentations given by medical residents.
• I lead the teamwork as Medical Consultant to finalize management of admitted cases under our team.
• As part of my responsibilities I follow closely with registrars and residents in the medical team, the management plans. I keep around for any emergency situations among inpatients. During night duties I come whenever there are conflicts or overcrowd of cases.
• I am always helpful and offer my experiences and knowledge to junior registrars and residents and they feel at ease working with me.
• I use to run three OPD clinics once a week including: general medical OPD clinic, diabetic clinic, and anticoagulation clinic.
• I write medical reports, discharge summaries and death reports.
• I participate actively department's activities to improve quality of services, and working environment.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:
• I presented many medical articles as academic activities including: Sudden Loss of Vision, Heart Failure, Septic Shock, Iron Deficiency Anemia Workup, New Oral Anticoagulants etc…
• I wrote and presented two case studies during the last two years: one case of PUO and significant progressive wt. loss proved to be mesenteric TB, and another case of Post contrast nephropathy (acute renal failure) with ACS and congestive heart failure associated with a very low ejection fraction (10%) that improved dramatically (to 55%) and even ecologically, clinically and radio logically with proper management.
POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:
-I attended many symposia and workshops in all areas of internal medicine in clinical and therapeutic issues: BLS& ACLS four times, 2 Saudi critical care conferences, 2 Prince Sultan military medical city medical conferences, 4 symposia on NOACs, and other symposia in diabetes updates, hypertensive therapies, strokes and heart failure etc…
-I am doing MSc Gastroenterology and Hepatology in South Wales University. I did the PGD.
I work as consultant of internal medicine with a quite long experience of work in the emergency department as acute medicine registrar and as a hospitalist. I had my exceptional experience in the most busy hospitals of Saudi Arabia. I worked as resident in King Saud Medical City for 15 years, then transfered to Prince Sultan Military Medical City in Riyadh on 2011, where I am still working. I started working in PSMMC as a registrar then promoted to senior registrar and on 2017 they upgrade my job to consultant of medicine in the department of Medicine. I believe that, I owns an exceptional experience in management of both the acute and non acute medical cases.
