The work description at MRI adult cardiac surgery unit is similar to that performed at Wythenshawe but without the pure Thoracic surgery procedures because at MRI the is only Adult Cardiac and Adult Congenital heart disease surgery.
So basically in addition all the adult cardiac surgery procedures, I have the chance to do adult congenital cardiac surgery procedures under the direct supervision of Mr Andreas Hoschtitzky who is currently the main Adult Congenital Cardiac surgeon at MRI.
MRI has become the Trauma Centre in Manchester so get chest trauma patients for emergency intervention.
My experience in Emergency Department as well as in Cardiothoracic surgery helps keeping me comfortable in emergency situations and calm under pressure.
At Wythenshawe Hospital (University Hospital of South Manchester) I worked in the department of Adult Cardio-Thoracic and Transplant surgery.
The job was to do Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) mainly on pump, as well as Aortic valve replacement, Mitral and Tricuspid valve repair/replacement with occasional left Atrial appendage ligation in AF cases.
Thoracic surgery cases include bronchoscopy and biopsy, Tracheal stenting, mediastinoscopy and biopsy, open/VATS wedge resection or lobectomy. Bilobectomy as well as pulmonectomy. Debulking, Decortication and pleurectomy, VATS evacuation of organised haematoma/ puss and chest drain insertion, forming a Thoraco Stoma.
Also Heart and lung Transplant.
Add to all that duties such as seeing new and follow up patients in clinics, post operative follow up in the critical care unit as well as on the ward where I do daily ward rounds, supervise the junior doctors (SHOs), and provide guidance and support as appropriate to ensure the best patient care.
My duties also include while being on-call to review all urgent referrals and manage urgent situations.
Also taking part in the Multi Disciplinary Team meetings, regular Audits and M&M as well as having Teaching responsibilities.
I am having a Cardiac surgery fellowship in Off-pump and minimally invasive CABG procedures ( MIDCAB). Where we focus on doing the CABG without using the Bypass machine. Also we do off-pump CABG via left lateral mini thoracotomy.
Clinical Specialist in Accident and Emergency is a senior grade specialist who manages all kinds of emergencies minors, majors and resuscitation/ Also provides support for junior doctors working under his supervision.
My job in the Hospital of Pasvalys was to manage Emergency Department, providing I was the head of this Unit, also to work as a physician .
As part of my job, I had to handle admitted patients in emergency cases. These cases might involve acute traumas or surgical conditions (fractures, brain concussion, ileus, internal bleeding, appendicitis, …) and other medical conditions, such as acute coronary disease, myocardial infarct, pulmonary embolism, stroke, Bronchial asthma attack, coma, …..

Cardiac surgery final evaluation exam 10/10. My research and publications: 1) Urgent thoracotomy for blunt chest trauma - (Trauma & Treatment) J Trauma Treat 2012, 1.9. Published November 22, 2012 2) A research work about Heart Valves Replacement Results, a comparison between biological and mechanical implanted heart valves. The work was presented in Kaunas medical university hospital, clinic of Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery in April 2007. 3) A research work about IHD in Patients With Previous CABG, decision making PTCA/PCI or reCABG. The work was presented in Kaunas medical university hospital, clinic of Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery in November 2008. 4) “Possibilities of Endovascular Prosthesis of Thoracic Aorta”, the article has been published in the magazine “Medicina”.
