Education

Doctorate, Chemistry
  • at Binghamton University
  • August 2010

Spurred project turnaround through dedicated research involving synthesis, purification, and characterization (chemical and biophysical) of small organic fluorophores and amino acids, devised new method for high resolution separation of tubulin monomers, and offered hands-on supervision to 6 undergraduates towards honors thesis program. Increased student engagement through leading interactive sessions, serving as instructor for undergraduate chemistry laboratory, as well as full-time tutor for Binghamton University Discovery Center encompassing courses such as Chemical Principles, Organic Chemistry I and II, Chemical Synthesis, and Bioorganic chemistry. Adhered to aggressive deadlines, resolved key issues, and demonstrated exceptional field knowledge. Key Accomplishments: • Planned and executed complex synthesis, purification, and characterization, both chemical and biophysical, of small organic fluorophores (hydrazine-based) and amino acids, exploring potential applications as probes for protein labeling. Solved crystal structure of multiple fluorophores. • Spearheaded enzymatic and chemical incorporation of amino acid and fluorophores in cytoskeletal protein tubulin and conducted biophysical studies investigating role of tubulin C-terminus during tubulin polymerization. • Developed simple and highly efficient new method for high resolution separation of tubulin monomers in polyacrylamide minigels. • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing molecular mechanisms of interaction of anti-mitotic drugs such as Taxol, Epothilone and Discodermalide analogs with tubulin and microtubules.
