• Plan and conduct training for the community stakeholders such as savings, fish processing, business planning, and community organizing
• Survey the fishing community using TaroWorks software to get research-based information on the fishing catch and distribution chain of post-harvest products
• Join a group of community developers in mapping the value chain of catch to the prime markets outside the fishing village
• Design measures relating to reduction of post-harvest losses leading to biodiversity conservation, food security measures and increase market promotions of fish catch
Tasked to design and provide technical advice to fishing community in building back livelihood and resilience during difficult situations
Key Accomplishments
• Design training materials on reduction of post-harvest losses and product development to more than 1000 women of the fishing communities
• Design post-harvest materials for the $2 Million USD project for the Typhoon Haiyan Fisheries Rehabilitation Project in Leyte and Samar Provinces in Philippines
• Manage distribution of post-harvest materials to more than 3000 beneficiaries affected by Typhoon Haiyan in more than 20 fishing villages
• Pool resources and logistics to distribute the materials by land and sea securing proper documents and fleet control
Recruited to complete College of Fisheries faculty to teach and deliver subjects loads on fish processing technology, fish microbiology, food safety and standards, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and thermal processing.
Key Accomplishments
• Coach graduate students for the Fisheries Licensure Exam. Provided study routine and exam tips to pass the exam. More than 25% of the total number of examinees passed the licensure exam.
• Introduce the students in the factory of canned tuna products exporting to the EU market.
Promoted to lead and supervise a team of Inspectors who are tasked to conduct audit of fishery establishments, fishing vessels, cold storage, auction markets and auxiliary facilities for approval and release of HACCP Certificate.
Key Accomplishments
• Establish the Fish Inspection Protocol and Procedures, with the Technical Working Group, as rules for the conduct of audit to fishery establishment in the Philippines
• Provide lectures and presentations on HACCP, inspection protocols and procedures, CODEX standards, food safety requirements, risk management and good hygiene practices
• Audit an average of 20 fish manufacturing plants and fishing vessels annually before the release of HACCP Accreditation Certificate
• Supervise and pass the inspection of EU-DG SANCO to grant accreditation to the Philippine government in approving establishments to process food intended for export to the European Union
• Assist 12 coastal communities in the enactment of Ordinance for the conservation of coastal and marine resources
