- Part of chief engineer responsibility which I look after :

-The Chief Engineer is the head of the Engine Department.
-He is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all machinery in engine room and on deck in compliance with the company’s Management System and all local, national and international regulations as appropriate to the vessel.
-He is part of Ship Management Team.
-He is The responsibilities regarding the cargo system, deck and galley machinery and equipment.
- responsible for all Engine Department administration, supervision and safe economical operations of all machinery and electro mechanical equipment on board.
-He reports and supervises the activities of all engine personnel. He is responsible for safety in the engine room.

-He is to be fully aware of the:
.Conduct and ability of Engine Department personnel
.Consumption and ROB’s of fuel oils, lubricants and water
.Condition of main engine and auxiliaries, past performance, repairs required and spare parts available
.Condition of combustion machinery, boilers and boiler water.

-He is responsible for:
.Ensuring a watch organization for Engine Room is set up and maintained
.Standing a watch when circumstances dictate
.Cleanliness of machinery spaces and compartments used for the stowage of tools, spare parts, engine stores, fuel, boiler feed water and lubricating oils
.Keeping the company informed on all matters relating to his staff, machinery, equipment and spaces
.Ensuring that engine department personnel demonstrate competence when executing their duties
.Advising the company when personnel do not meet the required standard
.Instructing crew members in the necessary precautions to operate the ship in order to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
.Ensuring the machinery and equipment is in all respects ready for the intended voyage
.Consulting the company and ensuring sufficient fuel and lubrication oils with adequate safe margin are on board
.Prepare and send to the company monthly defects report sheet.
.Responsible for the final decision that the engine room and all machinery can be operated under Unattended Machinery spaces (U.M.S.) conditions.
.Seeking authority from the company before any change is made that may impair seriously or otherwise the operational capability of the original system.
.Following completion of periodical overhauls, and before the ship’s sail after repair, a dock trial is to be made of all machinery and the result reported to the master who will advise the fleet Manager.
.To ensure that all sea connections are closed up and in working orders before the ship’s leave dry-dock., and to report the fact to the company.
.The checking of all requisitions submitted to purchasing for content and ensuring control is maintained within budgetary requirements.
.Aim at achieving the maximum economy in fuel consumption.
.Personally responsible for safe bunker of the ship.
.Correctly and accurately maintain the oil record book.
.Maintain the standard filing system as per the company Management System.
