A Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that an organization follows all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and industry standards—especially important in sectors like garments, manufacturing, banking, and corporate services.
Here are the key responsibilities:
A Compliance Officer develops, implements, and monitors compliance programs to ensure the organization operates within legal and regulatory frameworks. They regularly review company policies and procedures to make sure they align with local labor laws, safety regulations, buyer codes of conduct, and international standards (such as social compliance or ethical sourcing requirements in the garment industry).
They conduct internal audits and inspections to identify risks, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement. After identifying gaps, they prepare corrective action plans (CAP) and follow up to ensure issues are properly resolved within the required timeframe.
Another important responsibility is training and awareness. Compliance officers organize training sessions for employees and management on topics such as workplace safety, labor rights, disciplinary procedures, anti-harassment policies, and code of conduct requirements.
They also handle documentation and reporting, ensuring that all compliance records—such as audit reports, inspection logs, incident reports, and legal documents—are properly maintained and ready for external audits or buyer visits.
In addition, compliance officers coordinate with external auditors, buyers, government inspectors, and regulatory bodies. They support audit processes, provide required evidence, and ensure smooth communication between stakeholders.
They also monitor workplace safety and labor practices, including working hours, wages, child labor prevention, fire safety, building safety, and employee welfare conditions.
Finally, they report compliance status to senior management, highlight risks, and recommend improvements to strengthen the organization’s overall compliance system.
