Scope of work
• Coordinates repair and maintenance functions furnished operating fleet to minimize loss of revenue and cost of repairs
• Prepares recommendations for work and initiates procurement of materials
• Inspect machinery, equipment or spaces outlined in work request, draw up job specifications and obtain bids from contractors or shipyard to perform the necessary maintenance & repair.
• Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work at minimum cost.
• Investigates machinery causalities to determine cause and advices ship's officers in methods of operation to prevent recurrence of causality or small operation
• Maintains records of engineering costs for each vessel such as repairs, supplies and personnel
• Cooperates with regulatory bodies to ensure that requirements for alterations, repair or modifications are kept at minimum cost consistent with safety.
• Supervising all aspects of the vessels maintenance conducted and prospective repairs work lists issuing of engine room stores and tools in safe work practices, policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities: • He is accountable towards the availability of the necessary spares including the critical ones for all the machinery equipment & generators on board.
• He is accountable towards the vessel's preparation for dry dock (intermediate / special survey) in coordination with the Marine Manager & Chief Engineer on board.
• He is accountable to set up the dry dock plane for all the machinery on board.
• He is accountable towards the efficient operation of the entire vessel's machinery in coordination with the Chief Engineer

HSE Responsibilities: • Conduct frequent house keeping inspection on the Engine Room onboard the vessel.
• Ensure oily waste is disposed in proper way without causing any harm to the environment.
• Ensure Engine's log book records are maintained & updated.
• Ensure HSE policy is communicate to the crew, read & understood.
• Follow up on the major issues related to the machinery to resolve the same.
• Follow up on the preventive maintenance program set up for all the machinery & equipment on board, the vessel.
• Ensure availability of the suitable PPE for all the engine room crew.
• Ensure the validity of all the safety equipment on the engine room.
• Review Emergency procedure for engine's room evacuation in case of fire.
• Ensure the environmental protection issues in place & free pollution exists.
• Ensure that all the safety equipment in the operational mode in the main engine room in coordination with the chief engineer on board
