Member and Responsible for the Infection Prevention Control Committee, dealing with will all aspects and divisions of the Hospital.
Responsible for managing the Microbiology & Molecular department which involves the diagnosis of bacterial & genetic disorders and infectious diseases using state of the art molecular and conventional culture techniques & technology.
Managing the full service of the Laboratory including Histology, Serology, Molecular Biology, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology and Biochemistry.
Participate as JCIA internal inspector, inspecting different
Laboratories: writing citations and recommendations as indicated in the accreditation guidelines.
Proactively manage 45 technical staff to meet laboratory goals while
also meeting, often exceeding hospital administration expectations.
Responsible for the smooth running of the Laboratory Department in
aspects of administration and technical review.
Reviewing CAP external proficiency testing.
Update, maintain, and strengthen all aspects of training for the
technologists and designated quality personnel.
Promote six sigma and lean lab processes to ensure that high
quality, high productivity, and cost effectiveness are achieved.
Define, coordinate, and monitor quality assurance programs and
supervise activities of the Quality assurance specialist. Ensure quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date. Oversee plans and preparations for inspections.

Oversee staffing of all personnel in the laboratory. Effectively
maintain quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, as well as provide staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
Develop annual budget and manage department costs and resources to adhere to budget.
Work as a member between the laboratory and the Infection control
committee to investigate, control the spread of out breaks of infectious diseases.
Introducing new advancements in technical procedures, and quality
protocols to enhance the Laboratories standards. Major Projects
Developing a Quality control system, which involves setting up Westguard rules, vertical and horizontal audits, external and internal quality control, maintaining SOP’s to an international standard and making the Laboratory efficient to the Six Sigma standards.
Optimizing new assays in the molecular department, i.e. HSV1 & 2, Enterovirus, VZV, EBV etc.
Optimizing DNA/RNA extraction techniques to accommodate minute samples from the eye.
Setting up training modules for trainees and newly qualified members of staff, with end of module assessments and spot tests.
Responsible for the diagnosis of infection, infestation and disease processes by the application of microbiological, biological, serological and gene-probe/molecular technology utilizing the most up to date scientific methods in conjunction with traditional methods of culture, microscopy (including electron microscope) and antigen/antibody complex diagnostics.
Diagnostic work includes examination of cerebrospinal fluid, peritoneal dialysis fluid, urine, faeces, sputum, blood/serum, swabs, pus and diverse secretions. Investigations include for example, serological assays for HIV & Hepatitis B, identification of micro-organisms, lice, fleas and films for identification of intestinal parasites.
I am responsible for participating in all technical aspects of the Microbiology work undertaken in the diagnostic laboratories, a leader and a member of the team committed to the provision of an efficient and quality service during the day and where necessary, out of hours. I also ensure that standards and quality are maintained and actively contribute to the training and development within the Department.

I am responsible for susceptibility testing by disc diffusion (Stokes or modified Stokes), breakpoint, BSAC, Vitek (automated identification and susceptibility testing system), ATB and Microscan.
I am responsible for the management of analyzers and other equipment within the laboratory e.g. Vitek, Vidas, Axsym, Vitros, Liason, Tecan, BacT/Alert, 3D, Roche, LightCycler (PCR), Ampliprep, Taq Man, Abbott molecular, IMx, FLx. I am required to input patient and specimen data into laboratory computer systems and retrieve as and when required e.g. CERNER, Apex. Part of my duties is to maintain the smooth running of the laboratory stock system e.g. media, serology diagnostic reagents, and general laboratory consumables.
Responsible for the diagnosis of infection, infestation and disease processes by the application of microbiological, biological, serological and gene-probe/molecular technology utilizing the most up to date scientific methods in conjunction with traditional methods of culture, microscopy (including electron microscope) and antigen/antibody complex diagnostics.
Responsible for the management of qualified and training staff, supervising and training members of staff to reach an adequate level of technical ability.

Developing in-house PCR for the detection of all sub types of enterovirus, using a completely manual method for RT PCR.
Established and managed the Health & Safety system of the Laboratory, mainly concentrating on the risk assessments.
Part of the HPC accreditation team, main role was to ensure all quality aspects of the laboratory are met.

Worked on establishing genotyping for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, e.g. RFLP, MIRU typing, spoligotyping.
