Managing Director/Partner
K.V.F. Construction Ltd (self-owned), Athens, Greece.
Marketing strategy planning, feasibility studies and integrated development plans.
Design, Construction and Commissioning of the projects.
Projects included (high quality, energy efficient buildings):
• Bioclimatic luxury villas in Athens;
• Residential buildings in Athens;
• Office buildings in Athens;
• Hotel in Evia island;
• Residential villas in lagonisi, Attikis;
• Holiday resorts in the island of Sifnos.
By performing highly responsible construction management I succeeded
in excellent quality of construction at costs below budget.
Construction of the Olympic Centre Canoe - Slalom consisting of:
• 8.000m2 of facilities buildings and 5.000 Spectators seats.
• 600m Canal (Olympic Game Course) with 80 m RC bridge.
• Sea Water Storage Lake (960.000m3 capacity).
• Pumping station(18m3/sec).
• 20 km road construction and 4.000 m2 parking areas.
• 250.000 m2 landscaping (trees, bushes, grass and lawn).
Main Achievements
I completed the project ahead of schedule to complete satisfaction of the client, through Innovative amendments to initial design study and efficient construction methods. The final construction cost kept below the assigned budget.
Construction of two independent projects to increase capacity of the existing water supply of Athens, consisting of:
• Construction of a 28 km length steel pipeline(2, 0 m ø).
Rock blast excavation.
• Strengthening, elevation and cover of the existing aqueduct of Mornos (27 km long 6 m wide).
Project value €25million
Main achievements
I managed to get approval of the modification design and through efficient construction management I resulted in completion of both projects ahead of schedule at costs below budget.
Construction management :
• TBM site installations.
• Temporary TBM and tunnel structures.
• Surface works (Soil treatment, Buildings support, etc.)
• Coordination with client and subcontractors.
• Coordination with the design offices for matters influencing TBM progress.
Construction methods :
• TBM Site dismantling and assembling as well as starting, arrival and transfer in stations,
• TBM Segmental ligning.
• TBM time schedules,
• Creative and responsible solutions on site problems,
• Corrective measures and remedial works for TBM tunnel in non conformance cases,
• Tunnel alignment drawings (Detail Final Design).
• Work procedures and MSS's for tunnelling works.
• As build files of TBM tunnel.
Main Achievements
I managed to support effectively the operation of the TBM and to increase production rates. TBM route, being in the critical path, contributed to a better execution of the overall construction programme of the project.
• Detailed Design and supervision of construction for a waste radial stacker, including structural modelling.
• Design of road crossings and river crossings as well as transfer houses and a 60 m high mass flow silo.
• Preliminary design of two transfer and one overland conveyor, two transfer houses and two bin structures.
• Feasibility study for the ash handling system at Majuba power station and for a 70 Km overland conveyor.
Design and supervision of construction of :
• Seven storey steel framed structure with composite decks, including strengthening of the existing basement and foundations.
• Block of offices at Midrand. (Reinforced concrete framed structure with suspended floors and pile foundations).
• Block of offices at Bedfordview. (Reinforced concrete framed structure with flat slabs, pile foundations and a cast in situ box culvert running through them to accommodate the existing river flow).
• Conference centre at Gaborone. (Steel framed structure including 50 m span trusses and three pyramid shaped frames).
• Storm water management policy and master plan for the central region of Midrand.
• Storm water study for kerb and grid inlet capacities for Johannesburg City Engineer's Department.
• Hydrological study for Strijdom Park, Randburg.
• Hydrological analysis and sizing of a small dam at Roodewal, Rustenburg.
• A3 Arterial storm water drainage. Culvert design.
• Design of transfer tunnel in Lesotho (4.5 m diameter x 42km long), including:
1. Optimization of the horizontal and vertical alignment of the tunnel. Access adit design.
2. Determination of the optimum construction method of the tunnel. Rock support design.
3. Hydraulic design. Estimation of head losses in the tunnel. Determination of flood levels at portal areas and culvert design for the access platforms.
4. Preparation of tender documents.
• Design of the delivery tunnel from Lesotho to South Africa, at Little Caledon river crossing.
