• Represent the control team in new beamline projects and machine upgrades by collecting requirements for new control systems, including PLC-based Personnel Safety Systems (PSS), Machine Protection Systems (MPS), beamlines Equipment Protection System (EPS), beamlines and machine instruments integration with EPICS control system.
• Manage, design, define specs, build-up, install, and operate control system for new or upgrade projects, including defining the required hardware and the procurement logistics (collecting offers, tendering, and participating in the procurement and selection procedures).
• Supervise, support, organize, and plan the work of the control team, and communicate with other teams in control-related tasks to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
• Manage the PLC control panel assembly process, starting with the selection of hardware, purchasing it, building the panels, testing it, and commissioning the system.
• Program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs to ensure that all control systems are functioning properly.
• Ensure the quality of all testing procedures and methods used for these systems to maintain their reliability.
• Maintain the reliable operation of control system to reduce downtime and minimize Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
• Design the new GUI for machine accelerators and beamlines as needed. Also upgrade old GUIs within the team standers to ease the machine operation for operators and beamline control for users and scientist.
• Provide support for machine operation and join machine operation shifts to ensure that all operators and users are well supported.
• Collaborate with other teams or colleagues to address technical issues and system upgrades.
• Monitor and evaluate the team's performance and work to improve it.
• Manage team resources, distribute responsibilities, and serve as a link between the team and upper management.
• Report on team performance and workflow to upper management and collaborate on decisions to enhance performance.
• Take the initiative to resolve any issues or conflicts that the team may encounter.
• Approve and manage team member leaves in compliance with work requirements.
My role Involved:
• Program and troubleshoot Rockwell safety PLCs and integrate them with EPICS and ensure that all safety systems are integrated and functioning properly.
• Develop GUI on Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Control System Studio (CSS) for operators ensuring that all safety systems are easy to operate and understand.
• Design and implement PLC-based Personnel Safety Systems (PSS) by selecting appropriate PSS devices, installing and testing them, and ensuring that redundancy and diversity are implemented to achieve high safety integrity levels and reduce risks to acceptable levels.
• Integrate radiation monitors and environmental sensors such as ozone sensors with the PSS PLC to ensure that all potential hazards are monitored and accounted for.
• Implement the required tests for the safety PLC program, apply safety signatures, and implement safety logic locks to prepare it for third-party testing.
• Implement upgrades on the accelerator and machine PSS to ensure that all safety systems are up to date and functioning correctly.
• Perform periodic tests and verifications on PSS procedures to ensure that all safety systems are functioning properly and can be relied upon in case of emergency.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks and periodic functional tests on PSS devices to ensure safety functions on demand.
• Manage spare parts inventory and inquiries to ensure that all required parts are available and accessible when needed
I worked as an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer at the RO water treatment plant called WMZM, the largest RO plant in Jordan that supplies around 35% of the water needs for the city of Amman.
My responsibilities included:
• Rockwell and SIEMENS PLCs programming and troubleshooting engineer.
• Implementation and commissioning of new control loops as per site requirements.
• Implementation of PLC & SCADA modification as per control philosophy.
• Maintenance of motor control circuits (MCC).
• Design and implementation of new modification for panels as per process requirements.
• Installation, calibration, and loop check of the field instruments (pressure, level, flow, ...).
• Selection, installation, and configuration of flow meters.
• Maintenance of analytical instruments (pH, Redox, Chlorine and Turbidity).
• Maintenance of Instrument Air Dryers, pneumatic ON-OFF valves, and calibration of pneumatic control valves.
• Air conditioning Systems Maintenance.
• Manage spare parts and inquiries.
• Reporting periodically to Maintenance Supervisor.
• Preparing Preventive Maintenance PM and Corrective Maintenance CM reports.
• Preparing Preventive Maintenance work orders instructions & maintenance procedure.
• Organizing Preventive and Corrective Maintenance Tasks, Work Scheduling and Reporting Using MP2 CMMS Program (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
