• Preparing technical guide specifications, scope of work descriptions, and updating the standard details, design criteria and technical guidelines.
• Preparing Request for Proposal (RFP) documents with design concepts.
• Providing technical assistance during pre-bid conferences, proposal evaluations, and post-award and other conferences.
• Reviewing A/E contractor design drawings, specifications and calculations submittals and coordinating with the work of the other disciplines.
• Reviewing specialty vendor and shop drawings and specialty construction materials and equipment submittals.
• Reviewing advanced power system analyses.
• Reviewing and providing guidance in problem areas, recommending solutions, alternatives and improvements.Performing investigation of material and system failures.
•Design of power system: design of load flow studies, earthing system, cable sizing, short circuit level, protection system of housing projects/industrial projects as per NEC, IBC, IEEE standards. (namely: Arab Malaysian Oil Co., Projects in King Abdullah Economic City, Movenpick resort, etc.).
•Preparation of schematics of power flow and distribution and BOQ’s of projects.
•Design of fire protection system for industries (namely: Yanbu steel Co., Lubrizol Co., etc.) using NFPA codes.
•Design of electrical system for HVAC installations.
•Review electrical designs and provide red line corrections as needed complying with set product details and standards (namely: Royal Commission Medical Center Expansion Project).
In SAMREF I worked in the electrical reliability (Maintenance Department) and gained expertise in the following: • General electrical overview of the plant. • Understood the variable frequency drives and its industrial applications. • Understood the application of motors in SAMREF. • Understood the protection relays and learnt the application of the relays in the plant. • Studied the heating and cooling systems of the motors. • Understood switch-gears (Breakers and switching devices) and its industrial applications. • Studied Transformers and Power Distribution Systems. • Studied Emergency Power Supply systems. • Reading and interpreting Single Line Diagrams.
• Familiarization with the Industrial Electrical Protections, Switch-gears (Breakers and switching devices), Transformers and Power Distribution Systems, Motor Control Systems, Variable Speed Drives, Emergency Power Supply systems, etc.
• Understanding the one line diagrams of the plant.
• Learned the Hazardous Area Classification and usage of electrical equipment in refinery environment.
Some of the projects I did during the course of study at the University of Nottiningham : • Final Year Project: Designing and Construction of Bi-Directional DC-DC Converter; the main objective of the project was to design and deliver a cost effective, robust, and functional hardware which would allow the current to flow bi-directionally with different voltage levels. • Designing & Construction of Motor Control System: In this project, a motor was designed with the pulse width modulation technique to control the speed of the motor and H-bridge to change the direction of rotation of the motor. • Designing & Construction of Calculator: In this project, the input pad, LCD, and all the electronic components were assembled on the vero board and then interfaced together using PIC microcontroller. • Designing of semiconductor using Microwind. • Construction of Analog to Digital Converter. • Designing & Programming of a parking lot using C-free.
