During the earlier phases of economic crunch, cash was considered as the most important resource and efficient working capital management, especially receivables, was identified as critical success factor, by the Company’s senior management. I was thus entrusted with the critical position of Accounts Receivables Supervisor with the following responsibilities:

• Assuming overall responsibility for approving invoices, credit notes, accruals and rectification journals related to revenue and receivables
• Supervising a team of four accounts receivables assistants and two credit controllers in managing the entire invoicing and collections process
• Computing revenue from contracting in line with requirements of IAS 11 based on percentage of completion of total costs
• Ensuring necessary journal entries are posted in all accounts including WIP, Progress Billing, Due from Customers and Due to Customers on Contracts
• Liaising with credit controllers and obtain understanding of outstanding receivables and their expected recovery
• Supervising preparation and circulation of weekly debtors reports showing invoicing and collection statistics, DSOs, expectations and risk assessment information on customers, of each of the six business units
• Providing collection forecasts to Treasury on a weekly basis to be updated in overall Company cash flow forecasts
• Working closely with Finance Projects to identify automation needs in the AR function

I started with Transguard Group as a Senior Accountant in February 2008 and was appointed as Supervisor for Accounts Payables and Treasury with the following set of responsibilities:

• Supervising a team of five payables and treasury assistants in performing the day to day activities within AP and Treasury
• Reviewing and approving bank reconciliation on daily basis for seven bank accounts
• Ensuring all HR and Petty Cash payments are paid out after verification of compliance with the necessary approvals process

• Ensuring timely and accurate posting by the AP assistants of all supplier invoices by reviewing the activity log of accounts payables

• Supervising and reviewing supplier reconciliation, liaising with suppliers on queries and expediting resolutions of issues
• Ensuring supplier payments are being made in line with the timelines provided by the Group Financial Controller
• Assisting in scoping and development of suppliers’ dashboard reports including ageing reports, DPO reports and volume reports
