This is a family run restaurant and has been passed down from my grandfather to father. It was opened in 1964 and is now operating under my management.
I started here as a young boy and worked my way through every department. I worked under my father learning the aspects of the business including financial management, operations, marketing, social media marketing and supply management. Besides running the business i also used the knowledge gained from my degree to try new things.
Some of the day to day activities are as followed:
Operate till and serve customers in a friendly and professional manner
• Record opening and closing cash balance in till to ensure accuracy
• Count stock at the beginning and end of shift
• Restock bar as required
• Make sure the restaurant is clean according to Health and Safety Requirements and looks well presented
• Opening and closing of the store.
• Managing staff members and any conflicts or problems that occur in or out the premises
• Dealing with customers, their gratitude and their complaints in a professional manner.
Alongside this i had a number of other part times including retail, customer service and other catering companies.
I studied a degree for 3 years in Business management along side working fulltime and part time and investing in my personal property portfolio. The units I studied as as followed: Core Modules studied: – Corporate and global strategy, cross cultural management, personal financial planning, business research and consultancy, strategic management of innovation, business accounting and finance, operations management and decision making, marketing concepts and planning, global context in modern business and information development and interpretation. Gained 2.1 year 2, gained 2.2 year 3. I also took part in group projects including business research and consultancy. I was made group leader and had to organise a team of 7 members to increase the marketing and sales of a small company that designed yurts and rent/sold them. We used our research abilities to find competitors and new methods of advertising, resulting in the entrance into a new market and increasing profitability.
