Riyadh Metro Line 3 runs in the East-West direction. The metro will be mostly elevated along the western part, then underground in the bored and mined tunnel in the central section of the line, and then generally at grade along the eastern part. The length of line is 40.7km and it features 20 stations, in addition to 2 transfer stations with line 1 and line 6.

Shallow foundations were designed for the viaduct piers in the west section between 3 to 5m depth from ground level.
However, pile foundations were adopted where ever weak rock zones encountered. A potential weak zone called wadi (Wadi Hanifa basin) occurred where via duct approaches the central portion. Combines end bearing and skin friction piles were designed. The skin friction capacity was limited to 6 times diameters of pile. where the line converts viaduct to tunnel. The potential risk due to cavities were identified under the all the piers using cavity probing techniques and the cavities filled with the cement grout down to minimum 10m below the foundations.
The design includes temporary works design for deep underground stations design was carried out considering short term and long-term water tables. The complete shoring system design was based on
depth of excavation, type of soil/rock strata down to the bottom of excavation. In general, the stations were encountered with highly fractured limestone rock (Sulay formation -local name). The shoring design mainly consists of secant pile walls in upper soil with tie back rock bolts designed in fractured rock.

The excavations were supported by micro pile retaining walls in upper soil portion and the lower fractured rock with rock bolting system at different levels. The complete design was carried out using PLAXIS2D model to assess the potential horizontal and vertical displacements.

• Review and Approval of Temporary works reports including Excavation side slopes, Embankment design. The slope stability design was developed using, PLAXIS2D, SLIDE 5.0 software.
• Review and Approval of Hydrogeological reports of Saudi Arabia region exclusively Riyadh area.
• Review and Approval of TBM method statements.
• Review and Approval of Cavity probing reports.
• Review and approval of Pile foundation design and Pile testing. Checking the bearing pressure, settlement, uplift, lateral stability against lateral loads.
• Review and Approval of Cut and Cover design procedure for deep underground stations including Excavation, Dewatering, Micro piles, Excavation support, short creating.
