Geophysicist at Consulting
  • South Africa
  • My current job since January 2015
Principal at WesternGeco

  • November 2008 to December 2008

PetroSA as

Manager at ORIENT PETROLEUM INTERNATIONAL INC. (OPI)
  • Pakistan
  • December 2000 to November 2008

OPI as senior exploration geophysicist with main responsibilities to supervise seismic exploration activities/programs with focus on the cost and quality control of land seismic data, provide integrity of geophysical and validate the seismic data for interpretation work. Promoted to Chief Seismic QC during 2005. I was also a key member of seismic data interpretation team and exploration team for G&G activities. Other responsibilities include providing exploration managers on cost estimates for exploration program. Preparation and finalization of contracts while interacting with procurement/contract administrator, generating and maintaining AFE responsible for cost effective optimal quality exploration program.

The responsibilities include studying the area of interest on vintage data on workstation (prospect depth, areal extent, issues and challenges with vintage data at the prospect) interact with interpreters as well as interpretation of seismic data on LANDMARK workstation. Approving a cost effective seismic program and geophysical parameters to acquire a good quality seismic data and process it with the state of the art techniques available in the industry to meet the exploration program objectives to confirm the drillable leads to drillable prospects. Evaluate seismic contractors on technical grounds and shortlist. Bid preparation, bid evaluation, recommendation and follow up supervision. Successfully supervised 2D and 3D land seismic data acquisition of phase 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in two blocks in south of Pakistan during 2001-07 followed by processing of seismic data from leading seismic contractors worldwide

Geophysicist at VERITAS DGC - Singapore
  • January 1998 to January 2000

Veritas DGC Singapore on July 1998. Initially I was assigned to a crew to process seismic data from Woodside Australia, a major client for Veritas. The first ever project I worked for Woodside was completed ahead of time as Woodside gained more time to decide for well location and Veritas earned bonus. The quality of processed seismic data improved significantly.

March 2000, moved to a 3D processing project also for Woodside. This was one of the bigger 3D projects Veritas was awarded from Woodside. Around 3600 square kilometers of 3D marine data from Mauritania was processed with kirchoff prestack time migration. Velocity modeling was one of the key processes. Interact with Woodside consultant specialist on velocity model building to build the 3D velocity model that best defined the geological structural/model of the area. Travel to Australia (Perth) twice for a period of one month each to assist Woodside to interpret velocities interactively on workstation and finalize velocity model. Left Veritas DGC at the end of 2000 to join E&P Company.

of Pakistan as a staff Geophysicist and subsequently promoted to a Senior Geophysicist during 1996. I was responsible to assist chief geophysicist on seismic data QC, seismic data integrity and interpretation. Further responsibility include to work on bid preparation, bid evaluation and award/recommendation of Ratana 3D land seismic data from North of Potwar region, a first ever-commercial 3D seismic program in Pakistan. BGP, the first Chinese crew in Pakistan with the latest and new equipments was mobilized and employed to successfully complete the job with good to excellent seismic data quality. Digicon of Singapore was selected for the processing of 3D land seismic data through to 3D DMO, one pass post stack 3D migration and pre-stack time migration. I made five visits to Digicon Singapore to QC and approved the processing sequence of the 3D seismic data processing. It was the first ever-3D pre-stack time migration of land data in OPI Pakistan. The acquisition and processing data quality of the seismic data was of the highest standards and joint venture partners followed and started PreSTM processing their seismic data. The interpretation of the 3D seismic data has identified a compartmentalized reservoir into 3 zones. Two compartments have already been drilled. Further studies are under way to drill next proposed well.
