I supported primary, secondary and high-school students from diverse cultural backgrounds in a variety of academic areas and developed individualised action plans based on their needs.
My position at Sylvan was largely to provide individualised support to a mature student with additional needs. As well as helping him with academics, I strived to coach him to cope with life demands, and worked to enhance his confidence, independence and self-belief.
I also taught primary and secondary children Maths, English and Science, and assisted them with homework and exam revision.
During my post at Sylvan, I actively participated in other roles apart from teaching. These include the training of new teachers, preparing material for the teachers, setting up the teaching timetable, as well as other administration tasks. I also took part in regular staff meetings and took initiative, sharing ideas and feedback on how to improve operations.
Delivered one-to-one tailor-made training programmes to children of all ages. The programmes aimed to strengthen cognitive skills and thereby improve ability to learn.
This was a demanding and fast-paced job which required continuous training and self-evaluation to develop my skills as a trainer. The experience improved my self-discipline and organisational skills, as well as my ability to work under pressure.
