Along with the stock coverage, I assist the portfolio manager in drawing up the portfolio strategy and positions within the context of the overall Asset Management strategy, sitting in with the portfolio manager on client calls as well as preparing for the monthly performance review. I further assist the portfolio manager in preparing proposals for new portfolios/funds in conjunction with the sales team.
As an analyst I held (and still hold) the responsibility of covering publicly listed and traded equities
• Under my coverage are 20 stocks across the MENA Region ranging through various sectors; Real Estate, Banking, Industrials, Mining, Contracting, Retail, Consumer Staples and Services
• Bottom-up approach for analysis through model based valuations using various valuation techniques depending on the sector/company
• Prepare a presentation on every stock to debate it within an Investment Committee meeting
• Follow up on the stock and update the model for company, industry and macro events
Three months intense, courses and exam-based, training with EFG-Hermes, conducted by DC Gardner and other industry consultants in the areas of Accounting, Corporate Finance, Financial Modeling, Capital Markets, Financial Markets as well as Financial Statements and Cashflow Analysis. I graduated with an average of 90 percent and ranked third among thirty, finance majored, candidates.
As an Intern, I worked within a team of two on a state-of-the-art concept to implement a Bit Error-Rate Tester (BERT) for Optical Links that we continued as a project in the following semester.
