As well as managing campaigns for a number of BE Group organisations and projects, I also manage the corporate communications for the company. The role involved gathering and distributing internal stories for the intranet, writing and sending out press releases and managing the company's website and social media channels.
MADE Festival
I planned and executed the social media and PR campaign for MADE 2014, the UK's largest entrepreneurial festival with over 4, 000 attendees.
Speakers included key figures from government and media, as well as a blend of business experts and world famous entrepreneurs such as Paul McKenna, Michelle Mone OBE and Levi Roots among others. The event was a huge success for clients Marketing Sheffield and Sheffield City Council, as BE Group prepare for MADE 2015.
Future Scholar Awards
I designed and developed the website for the Future Scholar Awards 2015 for the UK government's Department for Education (DfE). Sticking to the marketing guidelines of the client, the web page was used to promote the project for 2015.
Other projects include:
Dovcor Bathrooms: In the summer of 2011, I was awarded a one month paid student internship which resulted in the creation of a communications audit analysing and suggesting improvements to the communication structure throughout the company. The audit was presented to the management and changes were being made to ensure a more productive workforce.
OPR: Working with the award winning agency in Newcastle Upon Tyne, I completed a voluntary internship for one day a week for four months. This included the completion of standard PR tasks from writing news releases and media lists to creating advertorials. Specialising in social media, I also managed some social network profiles for the organisations clients.
Working on the launch of the Growth Vouchers programme, it was my duty to plan the social media marketing strategy for the campaign to maximise publicity and participation amongst SME's in eligible regions of the UK. Another non-profit government campaign with a miniscule budget.
During University, I completed a works placement with the PR team at McDonald's head office in London. I also spent a day at Razorfish digital marketing and The Red Consultancy, both of which handle accounts for McDonald's. Many skills were gathered here and an invaluable experience giving me an insight into how important of a role PR plays within such a global corporation.
Gentoo Group Sunderland: Before attending University in 2009, I completed a voluntary two month placement with the PR department of the Gentoo Group. This gave me a brief insight into in-house PR and the handling of many publics.
At NDI, I also planned and executed campaigns for three major events in the industry. Two of the events, hosted by NDI, were Cyber Security 2014 at the Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters in Edinburgh and the Anglo French 2014 conference for innovation in the aerospace industry in Hertfordshire, both attracting hundreds of delegates.I also managed the PR for NDI's presence at DSEi, this meant using the PR campaign to persuade members to pay to have a presence at the event at the NDI pavilion. DSEi is the largest international event for the defence industry.
The course included modules in standard PR, crisis management, non-commercial PR, social media, writing for journalists and marketing.
