• Responsible for the overall cost control function from project start till closing
• Prepare Project Budget, allocate budgeted cost to engineering, procurement, construction, project management and other heads, and assign cost codes from the COA to cost breakdown structure for monitoring
• Prepare Forecast plans inclusive of latest invoicing plans, cost plans, cash flows, revenue plans on quarterly basis based on latest scenarios of project
• Project invoicing in lieu with contractual terms and conditions, follow up with client against timely payments
• Estimate to complete (ETC) cost calculations of engineering, procurement, construction, project management and other heads on monthly basis using deployment plans, quotations from commercial department, BOQ evaluations, expert opinions and other tools & techniques
• Determine project latest profitability on monthly basis incorporating net revenue and net cost
• Evaluate CPI, SPI and BCWP (Earned value)using planned percentages and actual work performed
• Set up project KPIs and regularly monitoring against baseline figures
• Support commercial/ procurement department in selection of technically competitive but cost effective vendors
• Overall and head wise cost status reporting, determine individual and consolidated overruns/ under runs of EPC projects
• Timely updating the WBS, worked in close coordination with planning engineer in updating durations of project deliverables
• Establish variation order register and updated it on timely basis, proactively contributed in change management, timely preparation and approval of change order requests
• Maintain logs of vendors/ subcontractor payments & invoices status, maintained check against dual payments
• Maintain invoicing status log and calculate financial charges against delayed payments
• Maintain procurement logs including vendor, cost and time details of all deliveries
• Prepare and follow up / monitor look ahead plans (weekly & monthly)
• Prepare project progress reports and update schedule considering valid deliveries and durations
• Prepare Change order request in coordination with respective engineering, procurement & construction departments
• Represent cost status report and analysis to management in performance reviews
• Compare analytical study from finance department with project cost status report, evaluate exchange rate gain/ loss
• Prepare project close out reports and project lesson learnt logsheet

Along with regular project assignments, I also worked in proposals department as Estimation Engineer. As part of proposal team, I estimated the direct and indirect costs of the projects at bidding stage. I coordinated with engineering and construction departments for estimation of design & construction cost. For estimating procurement cost I forwarded RFQs (request for quotation) to competitive vendors and estimated the costs based on technically & commercially sound vendors. I estimated the cost of project management team (direct & indirect) by developing deployment plans, and various other log sheets for estimating other expenses such as local & foreign travelling, site expenses etc. I also coordinated with client for pre-bid and post-bid inquiries. I worked on following proposals in particular.

In order to enhance my competencies at work, I took admission in Engineering Management and studied various subjects on management which flourished my skills at work. I studied "Project Management, Human resource Management, Principles of Engineering Management, Operations Management, Total Quality Management, Business Communication, Economic Decisions in Engineering Management, Management of Information Systems". Thesis topic was "Evaluation of Leadership Quotient in relation to EPC projects". I did Questionnaire based research work for evaluating various leadership & management competencies of engineers working on EPC projects and compared those competencies with the performance of EPC projects which in turn was based on 5 significant parameters of time, cost, profitability, quality, & customer satisfaction evaluated through project reports or interviews with project mangers. The significant difference was found between the leadership/ management competencies of engineers executing good performance EPC projects and those executing poor performance EPC projects.
Studied subjects related to mechanical e.g. thermodynamics, industrial materials, heat transfer, power engines, project management etc. I took project of “Design of HVAC system for UET Convocation Hall” in final year The building was in construction phase when we started this project in a group of 5 students. I worked at the lead position in my group and performed efficiently to complete this project. We studied architectural drawings of Hall, computed load calculations (using ASHRAE standards), selected system suitable to meet those load requirements, and studied the feasibility of operating suggested HVAC system with the exhaust of existing power plant of UET. The work was highly appreciated by our supervisor and was forwarded to UET management for consideration. Made occassional trips to NESPAK engineering services for professional support in load calculation and design of HVAC system.
