Creative Writer & Editor at Qgrabs.com
  • Qatar - Doha
  • My current job since September 2013

I thoroughly enjoy the challenges that Qgrabs.com bring to my working life, not least by providing the opportunity to indulge my passion for writing in a professional capacity. My role includes responsibility for all editorial aspects of deal launches, Quality Assurance and proof reading of the manuscript (which includes ensuring the correct relevant terms and conditions are applied) before pages are uploaded and published on the website. I personally write the creative work for the deals.

• Management of the ‘creative’ department outputs.
• Write the ‘creatives’ for upcoming deals in line with the deal schedule including the relevant html
• Dynamic prioritisation of workload in accordance with the constantly evolving deal schedule.
• Booking form analysis in order to ascertain what information is relevant to deals
• Liaise with Sales Managers to ensure all aspects of deals are covered (Fine Print/Highlights, etc),
• Check image suitability for website use
• Upload all creative work to the ‘back end’ of the Qgrab’s website ready for deal launch
• Customer service

Lead Emergency Dispatcher at Qatar Shell
  • Qatar
  • January 2013 to August 2013

The role of Lead Emergency Dispatcher within Qatar Shell GTL proved an exciting one, not least because I was fortunate enough to be part of the team orchestrating the start up of the Emergency Operations Centre. I used my previous experience to design and implement action cards, train team members in the art of radio telephony, and coach and support the team through complex incident scenarios both on and offshore.

• Provide 24/7 emergency coverage to the Qatar Shell GTL plant, Pearl 1 & 2 platforms including vessels, staff accommodation, Doha offices, and any emergency scenarios involving Shell staff within Qatar. Part of the Incident Command Team for major and Tier 2 and 3 incidents.
• Update Emergency Response documents as necessary.
• Lead and support a team of 6 Emergency Dispatchers including recruitment of new team members
• Create operational Rosters (including Incident Command Team) and manage Annual Leave to ensure appropriate shift manning including Maternity and Sickness monitoring.
• Use TETRA Radios, CCTV, ‘Red lines’ and VHF/UHF channels
• Answer emergency calls and dispatch the First Intervention Team/Medical Emergency Response Team as required, notifying relevant outside agencies if the need arises and ‘standing up’ the Incident Command Team upon Tier escalation.

Emergency Medical Dispatcher at South Western Ambulance Service Trust
  • United Kingdom
  • June 2008 to September 2012

Working at SWAST provided me with many development opportunities and challenges including proactive listening and assertively taking control of frightening and distressing situations. Professionalism was commanded throughout, and protocols adhered to at all times - a disciplined and high pressurised environment to be in, often selected to complete non-routine roles this include the set up Command & Control Rooms for Major Incidents, training new recruits, guiding them during their induction and mentoring through their probationary periods. With nervous new recruits often needing emotional and professional support, discretion, tact, flexibility and personality was required in this privileged position

• Answer Emergency 999 calls using AMPDS (Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System) - extract specific information from the caller regarding location and the nature of the emergency and dispatch resources accordingly.
• Provide Emergency life saving advice expeditiously, updating Dispatch with important information received during the call
• Use calming techniques to achieve the best outcome possible for caller and patient
• Operate radio equipment (ICCS) and liaise with ‘road’ staff, informing them of updates or job alterations and changes, including patient progress/deterioration
• Ensure vehicle response time targets are tracked and met. Prioritising the emergency workload and re-prioritising where required.
• Strategic co-ordination of vehicles and ‘road’ staff positioning around the county

Proprietor at Crooked Angels Bridal
  • United Kingdom
  • January 2011 to September 2012

An e-commerce business and my personal project and creation, Crooked Angels Bridal was an online bridal accessories outlet retailing unique handmade and locally sourced items to brides both within the UK and internationally, on a drop ship basis. In its fledgling year, Crooked Angels Bridal proved to be very successful. However, with the family move to Qatar, it is now simmering quietly in the background until decisions are made for its future. As sole proprietor running the business single handed, I developed resilient working relationships with suppliers and enjoyed a strong and diverse customer base, with orders being taken for delivery as far afield as New York.
