Objective/roles and responsibilities of the lecturer:
- aims to introduce students to the core concepts and practices within Graphic Design.
- Students will gain valuable software skills as well as develop their practical abilities through exploring fundamental aspects of design such as Elements and
Principles of Design, Typography, Image Generation, Layout and Identity Design.
- At the end of this course, students will have the ability to combine imagery and text to create successful compositions while maintaining a firm grasp of the processes involved.

The key performance areas for the Manager are the following:
1. Provide direction i.t.o. own responsibility area and implement strategy (10%)
2. Facilitate change and transformation in the Division and Unisa (10%)
3. Establish Unisa as a leader in sound corporate governance and the promotion of sustainability through collective leadership and management of the Department, Directorate and Unisa (10%)
4. Oversee effective implementation of the Divisional objectives and targets for 2010 in line with the Departmental Operational Plan (DOP) (40%)
5. Develop and manage technology, processes, systems, human capacities and other resources in the Division in line with Unisa’s organisational architecture (20%)
6. Practice professional citizenship (10%)
Graphic Designer for University Television.
Creates and co-ordinates production graphic design and broadcasting material. Provides high quality graphics to the controllers, lecturers, editors,
Monitors trends and evaluates technologies and products.
• Advise the production team on graphic techniques required and cost implications
• Provide special design/technical skill set for marketing campaigns, and content presentation.
- rich-media advertisements, landing pages, mini-sites, billboards, editorial graphics and presentations,
- Supports the broadcast team with projects that require design and create graphic elements and visual designs for day-to-day production of site features and product marketing element,

To manage or delegate design assignments in conjunction with the Photographic Unit. Assignments include consultation, planning of assignments and projects, the production and archiving of artwork. Production time will depend on the scope and complexity of the project.
2. To advise on the application of governments Corporate Identity give creative input, planning, production, archiving, staffing, critique of design and
office/studio requirements re equipment, designer software and technology.
3. Through interaction in the design environment, to develop a creative strategy for the development of design in government to almost compete with design houses in the private sector.
4. To assume responsibility for the general control of staff under your supervision and the quality control of their output.
5. To supervise and evaluate staff in conjunction with the Director and to assess and report on evaluation reports on the personnel.
6. To assume responsibility for the proper care and maintenance of all production equipment under your control and to keep abreast of technical
development in the field of graphic design.
7. To assume responsibility for relevant administrative duties related to tasks such as budgets, completion of VAS2 forms, stock control and monthly expenditure projections.
8. To assist with the aspects pertaining to the outsourcing of work on behalf of clients, ie. obtaining quotations, supplying specifications to suppliers and
clients, negotiating the most favourable prices as and when required.
9. To perform as a specialist consultant to Government usage of the Corporate Identity Manual and the implementation of it.
10. To act as a finaliser pertaining to print ready material before leaving the studio. That its set-up correctly according to industry standards.
Graphic Designer.
1. Collaborate with Deputy Director on the creative direction of all design and exhibition products through planning sessions (blue sky session).
2. Assignments include theme research, planning, design, presentation and display of designs and exhibitions, promotional-marketing material and so forth.
3. High quality design to be tested against industry standards.
4. Commitment to design all material in accordance with the Government corporate identity guidelines.
5. Provide briefs to photographers and illustrators when required.
6. Liaise with reproduction houses, advertisers and printing companies on production related matters.
7. Quality control on production of all design products.
8. Responsible for proper care and maintenance of all equipment and keep abreast of technical development in the field of exhibitions and design.
