Job Summary: Manage patients in the Emergency Department ensuring good standard of care is provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations.
2. Demonstrates competency in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and participates as a member of the Code Blue Team hospital wide.
3. Demonstrates priority setting or triage skills and timeliness in responding to patient's needs.
4. Demonstrates competency in providing emergency nursing care and procedures for patients of all ages and races.
5. Demonstrates vigilance in identifying patients with communicable diseases and following the appropriate isolation technique for such patients.
6. Ensures that all HAAD notifications to be done from the Emergency Room are completed within the stipulated time frame.
7. Prepares and assembles all equipments required prior to any procedure.
8. Performs wide range of Nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort including those requiring aseptic technique.
9. Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentation as per hospital policy.
10. Follows the chain of command in the Nursing Services Department.
11. Assists with the transfer of patients within the healthcare facilities and serves as transport nurse for patients during ambulance transport.
12. Responsible for the Daily and weekly ambulance checklist.
13. Responds to external disaster.
14. Responsible for checking the crash cart.
15. Demonstrates adherence to all hospital policies and procedures.
16. Takes responsibility for professional clinical practice and is actively involved in updating and continuing education.
17. demonstrates sound knowledge and participates in fire safety, patient safety and infection control precautions.
18. Takes responsibility for the Unit in the absence of the Head Nurse.
19. Carries out other duties as instructed by the Nursing Supervisor/ Nursing Administrator.
Job Description:
1. Receives and endorses the unit properly with the Charge Nurse.
2. Identifies nursing needs of patients, observes untoward signs and symptoms and coordinates with the Charge Nurse, provides direct nursing care to patient.
3.Gives direct nursing care together with the charge Nurse.
4. Takes and records the vital signs of patients.
5. Responsible for administration of oral and intravenous medications to the patients.
6. Assists Physicians when examining patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
7. Observes medical asepsis and responsible for suctioning secretions of the patients.8. Responsible for safely transferring the patient to the other unit and makes sure the patient is properly endorsed.
9. Charts accurately medications and treatments given to the patient.
10. Carries out Doctors' legal orders.
11. Gives health teachings to the patients and the patient's significant others.
12. Does Preliminary evaluation of patients who comes in for consultation.
13. Refers patients to the Attending Physician who comes to the Emergency Room for evaluation and management.
14. Performs Emergency First Aid treatment.
15. Acts as first assist to the Resident Physicians or Consultants in performing the following minor operations or procedures in the Emergency Room such as intravenous insertions, dressing catheter insertions, Incision and Drainage and Suturing.
16. Gathers General Data from the patients.
17. Assists the Resident Physicians in doing Physical Examination on patients.
18. Establishes good rapport with patients and their relatives for their comfortable stay in the hospital.
19. Motivates outpatients to seek admission to the hospital for a more complete evaluation of their condition and for further management.
20. Coordinates with the Laboratory Department and the Radiology Department regarding the procedures requested by the Resident Physicians and Consultants for the betterment of the condition of the patients.Emergency Department Staff Nurse
