After completing my 7 months internship, I joined the BuroHappold cities consulting team as a project coordinator/graphics consultant. This role gave me an exposure to a unique blend of engineering, urban planning and management consulting projects. I have built up my professional communication skill as I have assisted in the preparation of business development material. I have also developed a better understanding of urban designing by contributing to a number of housing proposals.
I joined BuroHappold Engineering with the aim of working within a leading international consultancy firm alongside signature architects, contributing to the design of iconic buildings. Joining a multidisciplinary consultancy firm immersed me in a challenging environment.
As an architect, gaining a broad understanding of the construction industry and engineering problematic faced by the design team is an asset and will be essential for taking educated decisions when getting involved in future potential technical discussions.
By being part of the building environment team, I have been exposed to all main engineering disciplines. Specifically, I assisted electrical, mechanical, sustainable and structural engineers which allowed me to experience and understand the key challenges encountered during the design process of complex buildings.
This internship also enabled me to contribute to several major high end projects from conceptual design to construction stage. Among those projects, I had the chance to play a part in:
- The development of MEP conceptual strategies design for the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA, Riyadh, KSA)
- The detailed design development of the lighting system for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA, Riyadh, KSA) including discussions/workshops with architects and suppliers.
- The review of the construction documentation for an iconic tower (AlKhorayef Centre, AlKhobar, KSA) accommodating luxury boutiques, restaurants and a five star hotel.
- The production of presentations, design notes and reports expressing complex engineering issues in an intelligible format for clients.
Valedictorian Throughout my Bachelor Degree, I've developed an understanding of architectural fundamentals that allows me to quickly fit in a professional environment. The main design courses focused on teaching interior spacial experience for occupants, main site conditions characteristics, introduction to sustainability and building systems & technologies. Those considerations were discussed through the design of a residential building, a cultural center, a mixed use high rise and a resort. The other modules taught included: - Construction Documentation - Building Structures - Environmental Control (MEP Building Systems) - Fundamentals of building costs, life-cycle costs and construction estimating - Urban Design (Building designs and issues of growth, development and aesthetics in their communities) - Landscape Architecture
