Assistant to composer Miki Minoru and his circle of performers in a number of productions, including participations by the ensemble Aura-J, the biwa virtuoso Yang Jing, and the prouction of the opera "Ai-en" at the New National Theatre Tokyo.
Lecturing the musicology undergraduate module "Issues in Opera" for two semesters each year. Work included preparing classes, lecturing, leading seminars on the discussed topics, and setting and grading students' essays.
Although employed only as a music history and analysis teacher I also doubled occasionaly in the roles of piano instructor, repetiteur to chamber and voice classes, and as a choral and orchestral conductor. This position gave me experience of the variety of musical roles at large vocational education organizations.

Thesis supervisor: Julian Rushton The thesis deals with views of Japan and of Japanese music and culture during its rise among developed nations from the late 19th century through to the late nineties.
Major: Opera Studies Minor: Editorial Method Received the Lord Snowden Award for Opera Studies Dissertation Title: "Beethoven's Oratorio Christus am Olberge and the New Way" Dissertation supervisor: Julian Rushton Research project for the minor: Critical edition of six Secular Cantatas by Felix Mendelssohn Editorial project supervisor: Richard Rastall The dissertation deals with the transformative period in Beethoven's style and his experience with music drama, from Christus to Fidelio. The often neglected oratorio appears as a key stepping stone in Beethoven's stylistic development and his evolving understanding of the drammatic possibilities of music, latter fully realised with the opera Fidelio and the Third Symphony.
To clarify, this course, known as a Licence, was a 5-year undergraduate programme. Traditional BA courses are 3-year programmes. Final Project: Critical Edition of a secular Cantata by portuguese baroque composer Antonio Teixeira. Final project graded with 20 points on the 20-point GPA.
