1. Review of live cash (MT1XX), securities (MT5XX), and trade (MT7XX) SWIFT messages for sanctions hits against internal and
external lists and for any underlying sanctions concerns associated with the messages.
2. The sanctions reviews are pertaining to 22 supported countries across the Africa and Middle East (AME) making the reviews diverse
and incorporating regulatory requirements that may be unique to specific countries.
3. Preparation of MI packs pertaining to the performed sanctions reviews and identifying typologies and trends which would contribute to
updating of sanctions lists and improved stakeholder interactions (particularly with business and the Request For Information process
involving SCB clients)
1. Review cases to identify, address, and mitigate any possible money laundering risk associated with the bank’s client portfolio.
2. Identify money laundering risk and prepare the accompanying Suspicious Transaction Report to escalate to regulators.
3. Develop various forms of MI packs related to FCC cases which get presented to Compliance Management and in some cases, the
formats get adopted by other SCB teams.
4. Participate in workshops, master classes, and external trainings on more complex banking products (Islamic Banking, Trade, and
Transaction Banking) and regulatory aspects linked to the FCC space and SCB’s global banking environment.
5. Work on operational risk framework components linked to AML investigations and provide guidance that is utilized by Compliance Management.
1. Member of the inaugural batch of SCB’s FCC Graduates where I was the selected candidate for the AME region.
2. Contributed to the Sanctions Governance function by monitoring and preparing internal and regulatory escalations and preparing excel
trackers to ensure that all escalations are documented and highlighted within the stipulated turnaround times.
3. Provided Sanctions advisory assistance by responding to Sanctions-related queries and internal reports escalated by various stakeholders
(mainly the frontline/business).
4. Performed Sanctions investigations on retrospective and real-time transactions with presumed Sanctions risk and which were associated
with various SCB Business Segments.
5. Reviewed Customer Due Diligence (CDD) cases to ensure that financial crime-related risk is captured properly for corporate clients
with enhanced due diligence status.
6. Acted as a point of contact for CDD and Sanctions queries where I worked on guidance and policies that covered overlapping
operational areas that were linked to both areas.
7. Mentored new batches of FCC Graduates entering SCB and provided career guidance and advice.
