Leading and developing the SEN services in the school, including writing polices and staff training.
Identify the students needs. Apply the staged approach, Write IEPs, ALPs, BIP, IPs. Monitor students progress. Pull out at risk students in small groups.
• To observe the children and undertake assessments of children.
• To work within the Portage model as set down by the National Portage Association.
• To contribute to the development of whole service policies.
• To communicate, co-operate and work collaboratively with agencies within the local authority (eg Civil defense, Cultural foundation, Child care center, Speech and Language Therapy) to meet the needs of children.
• To monitor each child’s progress, to contribute to the writing of progress reports and to the identification of new objectives to be taught.
• To maintain records of intervention with children on the caseload, following the relevant Service protocol.
• To contribute to the development of Portage training materials and to the provision of Portage training.
• To liaise with other teaching/Portage services to share practice and maximize learning.
• To work closely with Early Years education settings.
• To provide reports as required including the educational advice for children.
• To undertake and provide training as required and appropriate for the purpose of developing skills and knowledge and maintaining an up-to-date awareness of trends in Early Years issues.
• Organizing activities that require a student to hear, see, say, and do something.
• Observing individual children to see how long it takes for them to become bored or fatigued.
• Finding out what a student favorite activity is.
• Calling out student names and then marking them off a class register.
• Helping to manage the workload of other teachers.
• Creating a diversified curriculum.
• Creating a supportive and diverse classroom environment.
