Duties and Responsibilities current
• Familiarize yourself with the content of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) 85 of
1993 and National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) 107 of 1998 and associated
Regulations.
• Ensure the compliance with the OHSAct, Environmental Act, related Regulations, client
requirements and the enforcement of legal compliance.
• Overseeing the implementation of the Project health & Safety Plan and Environmental Plan
and keeping of up-to-date records for the HSE files to enable auditing to be carried out.
• Enforcing all HSE requirements in the interest of maintaining a safe and healthy working
environment with the aim / objective of minimizing hazards and prevents harm to the health
and safety of employees and the environment
• Ensure the implementation, adherence and compliance with requirements of the documented
Project health & Safety Plan and Environmental Plan on the stated work sites
• Ensure that the project management team are advised w.r.t. the Project health & Safety Plan
and Environmental Plan requirements, legislative requirements, local regulations, and Client
requirements
• Supervise on-site health, safety and environmental control and promote the safe conduct of
site operations and environmental protection
• Conduct / facilitate Employee HSE Induction, Day Visitor / Supplier Induction and Toolbox Talk
Training as well as keeping records of training and attendees and to ensure that all employees
have attended Induction Training prior to commencement of work.
• Participation in the preparation and development of risk assessments
• Establishing, as far as is reasonably practicable, what hazards are attached to any work
undertaken at the workplace and ensuring that Risk Assessments (HIRA´s) are conducted,
recorded and communicated 11. Ensure regular reviews of HIRA´s and application /adherence
thereto in the workplace

• Ensure compliance with operational HSE control requirements and the relevant risks
assessments for specified tasks
• Where there is a Fall Protection Plan, the stated controls are implemented, maintained and
adhered to.
• Ensure that the site welfare facilities (rest areas, water, toilets, etc.) are sufficient for the
number of personnel, are being provided by the site supervisory staff as well as ensuring that
high standards of hygiene are maintained.

procedures and operational controls as well as the Project health & Safety Plan and
Environmental Plan
• Promote a positive HSE attitude to personnel, subcontractors, consultants and the client
• Be proactive in addressing operational HSE issues to ensure that the risk to workers and
others are managed, minimized and prevented as well as the potential environmental impact
prevented / mitigated.
• Establishing a list of hazardous tasks, requiring safe work permits, implement and maintain the
required permit systems.
• Ensuring that minutes of the HSE Committee Meetings are distributed to all levels of
management and employees.
• Ensuring employees are aware of the hazards involved in their work / task and that the
prescribed precautionary measures are adhered too.
• Ensure that ALL employees / workers (including subcontractors) are issued with and properly
use the correct PPE and safety devices for the work being performed.
• Enforcing all requirements in the interest of maintaining a safe and healthy working
environment
• Report any incidents, accidents or near misses immediately, as per the Company procedure,
(this may include liaison with police and /or authorities) and prevent that the area be tampered
with
• Lead / facilitate the Investigation of incidents, accidents and near miss events to determine the
root basic and immediate causes and ensure that corrective and preventative actions are
implemented for all HSE related events.

legislation;
• Writing and/or advising on method statements for activities that would occur is especially sensitive
environments and assisting the Principal Contractor in finding environmentally responsible solutions to
problems;
