• Provide strong and confident leadership to the Calgary Water group in the following areas: Acquisition, cultural integration, professional development, training, monitoring, engagement and retention of employees.
• Responsible for proposals and projects risk review and profitability analysis and monthly updates.
• Financial approver of the projects portfolio and train projects manager on scope change management and scoping.
• Liaison with clients and internal directors to ensure project delivery satisfaction and quality.
• Effectively assign staff to projects and ensure, directly and through subordinates, that technical work is completed in accordance with contract and budget, and to company, professional, quality, policies.
• Assign projects responsibilities to staff in a manner that increases profitability, utilization and efficiency.
• Responsible for project progress reports to the regional Vice President with the emphasis on reducing and mitigating losses and margin erosions and strengthen revenue growth and meeting and exceeding projected/planned targets.
• Contribute in the delivery of the Area Water’s operational objectives including projects portfolio performance, group profitability, career development planning with staff, adherence to AECOM’s Quality, Project Delivery, and SH&E programs.
• Apply strategic insight and operational planning to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Calgary Water group are aligned with those at the Area and market sector levels
• Manage, support and train 20 staff that includes project managers, design engineers, project engineers, designers and technicians.
• Develop growth plans with the operations manager and Vice President based on economic and market trends and clients’ needs.
• Maintain staff utilization by planning staff project allocation.
• Oversee department contracts and control key performance indicators (KPIs); scope changes, schedule, budget and profit margins, and design quality.
• Support business development and proposals writing and seek new opportunities with existing and new clients through responding to RFPs (quality based) and RFQs (price based) proposals.
• Deal with and resolve contractors’ claims and disputes in accordance with the contracts terms and conditions.
• Implement AECOM quality control and project delivery programs and enforce HS&E policies.
• Interact with internal AECOM managers to support multidisciplinary projects' civil engineering needs and requirement.
• Managed industrial, commercial, residential, institutional and government projects.
• Designed subdivisions servicing, drainage and grading plans.
• Designed pressurized piping systems up to 1500mm (5ft) in diameter (concrete, steel, HDPE, and PVC).
• Wrote DBMs (Design Basis Memorandums), compiled EWPs (Engineering Work Packages) and CWPs (Construction Work Packages).
• Developed and reviewed PI&Ds and PFDs for list stations, water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Estimated, tendered and administered unit price based contract, lump sum contracts, and design build contracts.
• Designed shorelines protection systems (riprap armoring, timber crib walls, and live stakes and shrubs planting).
• Performed hydraulic and hydrologic analysis and modeling of potable water feeder mains and distribution systems, sanitary sewer, and storm water management systems.
