Problem Statement: Design and manufacture a 2-component wind tunnel balance to measure the lift and drag forces of scaled models in the wind tunnel Project Overview: The aim of designing and manufacturing a two component balance is to measure the lift and drag forces on a scaled model inside the wind tunnelin aeronautical applications. The measurement of aerodynamic loads such as lift force, drag force, and pitching moment in a wind tunnel, is very important requiring accuracy. The wind tunnel balances, comprised by several hardware and software components, provides directly the pursued measurements, with high accuracy and reliability. In designing the two component balance, NACA-2409 airfoil is used as a model for the wind tunnel. The lift and drag forces calculated for this airfoil are used as a basis for the design. For these reasons, among others, wind tunnel balances have become a common tool in testing facilities.
