Traffic Engineering Director
Traffic Engineering System (TES)
Total years of experience :28 years, 8 Months
• Responsible for the development traffic impact studies. The traffic impact studies (TIS) consisted of collecting significant amounts of traffic data including automatic traffic counts, manual traffic count and origin destination information. Detailed traffic capacity and level of service analysis was performed to identify the existing and future traffic operations along the adjacent street network. Mitigation measures were also recommended as needed.
In addition, I prepared a traffic impact study guide for the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and served as a traffic consultant for the Mayor of Amman. I was also responsible for collecting the largest traffic data in the history of Jordan for the Abdali Development Phase II Expansion project and reviewing traffic impact studies submitted to GAM for large scale project.
• Responsible for the traffic design projects. The traffic design according to international and local standards involved most or all of the elements of traffic engineering design. These elements included traffic signing which included both Arabic and English lettering and pavement marking design. The traffic signing was the first of its kind worldwide to be correct. The traffic design included traffic signal design and intelligent transportation system (ITS) design.
In addition, I was responsible for the road design to improve the busiest traffic interchange at the port of Aqaba. The road design included layout and profile plans, drainage and pipe culvert design and preparing the related bills of quantities.
• Responsible for the traffic management system projects. The traffic management system projects consisted of Engineer, Procure and Construct contract which involved procurement of traffic management elements including variable message signs, closed circuit television cameras, vehicle detection cameras at signalized intersections and traffic management system control equipment. Design plans for installing these traffic management system components were developed. Construction works according to theses design plans were completed.
• Responsible for the area traffic operation improvement projects for an area wide transportation system which included five cities. The improvements involved evaluating area wide transportation systems, providing traffic analysis and design elements for these systems, recommending traffic management improvements and comparing traffic operations prior to and after the improvements.
• Responsible for the road work traffic operation management projects. The road work traffic operation management involved developing traffic management plans to maintain the operations of traffic during road work activities including the detour plans. The traffic management plans included an intelligent transportation system (ITS) element at times.
- Coordinated the feasibility study to build a light railway system (LRS) to transport passengers between Amman and Zarqa
- Responsible for the liaison efforts with several public agencies to facilitate the preparation of the LRS feasibility study
- Assessed the transport system between Amman and Zarqa including the proposed LRS alignment and estimated the number of passengers expected to use the LRS
- Prepared the traffic impact study for the Le Royal hotel in Amman
- Responsible for a 4-year before and after Freeway Management System evaluation study conducted on 35 miles of freeway in Phoenix, Arizona for the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT)
- Responsible for the traffic signal design of 30 intersections in Detroit, Michigan along Gratiot Avenue including the Detroit downtown area for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT)
- Responsible for the traffic signal design effort for 30 additional intersections in Detroit, Michigan along Hoover and Van Dyke Avenues for MDOT
- Evaluated the efficiency of the traffic signing and pavement marking system along the I-17 and SR 179 between Phoenix and Sedona during an on-call contract with ADOT
- Designed elements of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) plans in Salt Lake, Utah to accommodate the 2002 winter Olympics in the city for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT)
- Developed criteria to rank all the traffic interchanges in the state of Arizona based on their priority for improvement for ADOT after conducting site visits to these interchanges and obtained their traffic design condition information
- Designed the signing and pavement marking system along Interstate 40 in Flagstaff, Arizona during an on call contract for ADOT
