Managed Pressure Drilling Field Engineer at Weatherford
  • Saudi Arabia - Dammam
  • January 2013 to March 2015

Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is a technology that enables drilling wells that previously were thought of as impossible, safely, while reducing cost and time. MPD manipulates bottom hole pressure by applying back-pressure at the surface, achieving required equivalent circulating density (ECD) with lighter drilling fluid, and enabling drilling wells of very narrow drilling windows.

I worked in the office and in the field simultaneously.

My responsibilities in the base included:

- Hunting and tracking potential well candidates
- Authoring drilling programs and well feasibility studies based on my hydraulic well modelling (WellFlo and Secure Hydraulic Modelling)
- Authoring end of well reports - a detailed report stating every occasion and action, recommending on how to improve the services, and the lessons learnt from the respective well.
- Building official internships plans from ground up and training and supervising interns.
- Equipment maintenance and green tagging.

My responsibilities in the field included:

- Giving a safety presentation to the client, the rig crew and the service hands.
- Assisting rig-in operation
- Discussing game plans with the client representative.
- Making sure the well is drilled according to the hydraulic model in the drilling program.
- Maintaining an improving the relationship with the client.
- Making sure all operations are conducted in a manner exceeding both, safety and professionalism standards.
- Making sure to deserve the best evaluation from the client.
- Step-by-step detailed reporting to my local and regional superiors.

Leader of Senior Design Project at Solar Water Disinfection Unit
  • Saudi Arabia
  • January 2012 to May 2012

Leader of Senior Design Project team:

Solar Water Disinfection Unit - Design and Build

A device that uses sunlight and photo-catalysts to disinfect water, killing bacteria, viruses, and dyes. The project included two prototypes, a parabolic trough and a flat plate.

The former, concentrates sunlight by on a UV-transparent pipe though which water passes on a photo-catalyzed stainless steel strip, by a parabolic reflecting surface. The latter, employs a flat reflecting surface containing water, in which powder photo-catalyst is spread.

The parabolic trough water disinfection unit was significantly more effective than other prototypes at the time. It performed at a much higher rate, with capabilities of disinfecting much larger volumes of water.
