Mechanical/Nuclear Engineer في Bechtel Power Corporation
  • الولايات المتحدة
  • أغسطس 2008 إلى يوليو 2012

Mechanical/Nuclear Engineer: Bechtel Power Corporation, Frederick, MD 08/2008 - Present
• Currently, working as a group lead on a nuclear power plant project. Duties include: perform
system design calculation and equipment sizing, provide technical assistant to young engineers and support the engineering group supervisor by providing input to the project schedule and budget, attending the schedule meetings, model review meetings, and other technical and
administrative meetings.
• Developed design calculations for the Spent Fuel Pool Cooling and Cleanup System (SFPCCS)
These calculations include the determination of the decay heat load in the spent fuel pool as function of time, the spent fuel pool boil-off time, the system flowrates and equipments sizing, and the system design pressure and temperature.
• Developed the design calculations for the Gaseous Radwaste System (GRWS) . These calculations
include the determination of the system flowrates, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, and the mass of the charcoal to achieve the required radionuclide holdup times.

• Evaluated the system design against the safety requirements of nuclear power plants in the
Industry Standards (ASME, ANSI/ANS, API, etc.), and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) Guides and Standard Review Plan.
• Performed the technical bid evaluation and equipment selection (heat exchangers, pumps, valves,
gas cooler, demineralizers, filters, and charcoal delay beds.)
• Prepared the process flow diagram (PFD) and the piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) for the main steam, seal steam, feed water, condensate, the spent fuel pool cooling systems, the
gaseous radwaste system, and the components cooling water system.
• Performed the pressure drop calculation and ID fan sizing for flue gas ductwork for Co2 capturing
demonstration plants.
• Designed and sized large field erected tanks (Demineralized water, Oil fuel, Raw water)
• Reviewed vendor's drawings and data for completeness and optimization.
• Communicated with vendors to resolve issues and discuss the work plan, and all milestone dates.
• Managed a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) contract to develop a CFD model for the flue
gas ductwork to determine the best possible layout for the ductwork for fossil power plant. Duties
included: the service requisition preparation, bid evaluation, results analysis, technical issues
resolution, and the coordination of the schedule and sequence of work with other disciplines on the project.

Research and Teaching Assistant في Research and Teaching Assistant: Center for Aerospace Research

  • أغسطس 2002 إلى أغسطس 2008

• Used FLUENT Software to simulate CFD problems such as fluid flow through convergent-divergent nozzle, tanks sloshing, and mixing chamber. CFD experience includes building the model, formulating the problem, presenting the results, and writing reports.
• Developed a simple and robust CFD Solver for the system of Navier-Stokes Equations. Utilized the new solver to generate solutions for complex CFD problems (Shock/boundary layer problem, shock train problem).
• Used ANSYS Software to create 3D finite element models to conduct stress and fatigue analysis for different applications including bridge design, design of landing struts for space craft, design of optimized aircraft wing structure, fracture mechanics application, sightseeing gallery design, and design for the best fin shape to enhance heat transfer from a surface.
• Developed a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to create the input files for an existing CFD Code called FDL3D used by U. S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
• Developed a FORTRAN code to solve the subsonic-supersonic flow through convergent-divergent nozzle using McCormack’s technique.
• Teaching Assistant in mechanical engineering classes: CFD, Heat transfer, Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, and Internal Combustion Engines. Duties included:
- Conducted the class in the absence of the professor.
- Assisted in teaching and developing assignments.
- Conducted the recitation session every week.
- Graded all homework and quizzes and helped in setting the tests for the class.
