Hill International are one of the world's leading project management consultancies acting on behalf of the Omani Ministry of Transport on the development of Muscat and Salalah International Airports projects. My role involved regularly consulting with and presenting to government ministers and managing a large team of legal professionals, quantity surveyors and forensic analysts handling all contractual claim related issues across eleven Main Contract Work Packages with a combined claim value in excess of $4 Billion. I was required to draft a high volume of impartial determinations of contractor and employer claims and Engineer's Decisions (in lieu of Dispute Adjudication Board Decisions) under amended FIDIC Design and Build forms of Contract including participation in a number of international arbitration proceedings.
Producing detailed, substantive claim documentation and defences; carrying out full contractual reviews and risk assessments; implementing suitable contract administration procedures and managing multiple project-based teams to effectively protect time and cost entitlement under both FIDIC and bespoke forms of Contract. My role also involved developing new business opportunities with new clients and developing existing commissions with established clients.
Contracts & Commercial Manager of a large Commercial Department of 40+ staff on a fully re-measureable $500 million Nominated MEP Subcontract package to a new Terminal building (Concourse 3) at Dubai International Airport, responsible for compiling monthly measured-works payment applications of up to $50 million, administering over 400 delay notices and producing interim and final extension of time and cost claims avoiding delay damages and resulting in the award of substantial additional entitlement.
As part of the company's executive committee, my role involved the management of busy estimating, surveying and buying departments working on a range of multi-trade housing stock refurbishment projects (mainly kitchen, bathroom, heating, electrical, door and window upgrades) with numerous local government authorities throughout the East of Scotland; one of which involved a tendering dispute ultimately found in the company's favour at The Court of Session in Edinburgh.
Managing a team of project-based surveyors across two award-winning residential developments comprising a mix of luxury villas, terraced housing and apartment complexes, I was responsible for all commercial and contractual duties involving the procurement and management of Ground Works; Roads; Drainage; Utilities; Landscaping; General Builders Works, MEP and Specialist Subcontract packages.
A medium-sized M&E contractor specialising in Under-floor Heating installations, Air-to-Water and Ground-Source Heat Pumps, Solar/PV Panels and Rainwater Harvesting systems. Due to the successful preparation and early settlement of a number of final accounts and contractual claims I prepared in my time with the company, they began sponsorship of my Masters Degree in Construction Law & Arbitration.
In my time with one of the UK's leading M&E Contractors I was involved with a variety of prestigious projects throughout the East of Scotland with Main/Management Contractors such as Bovis Lend Lease, Mace Group, Heery International, Carillion and Laing O'Rourke, two of which included my participation in contractual disputes that ultimately progressed to full arbitral proceedings.
In addition to large residential and commercial MEP projects, McGill's also specialized in CCTV & Security systems, Fire Alarms, Structured Cable (VOIP) Networks and Facilities Management services. I was also involved with a variety of ground-breaking Project-Partnering initiatives on housing stock refurbishment projects with local authorities throughout Scotland, and carried out a range of project management roles leading to their sponsorship of my HNC in Project Management.
