- Production, Fabrication and Quality Control
• Working with one of the world’s largest railway networking system, efficiently engaged in Locomotives and Coach
Production facilities.
• Working with the aim of Safety and comfort for the General Public is the prime responsibility of this department.
• Important role at different stages like production and inspection of mass components used for rebuilding of passengers
coaching vehicle (PCV), Bogies, Rail Tanks, Wagons, Pipelines, rotatic / static equipments.
• Other activities related to welding, fabrication, manufacturing, inspection according to international codes and
specifications also being part of the role.
• Certified ASNT Level-II (UT, MPT, LPT, RTFI), and looking after material testing, inspection of weldments, railway bogie
frames structure, storage tanks, piping system, cranes, shell subassemblies, side-walls, End-welments, including complete
responsibility of production and quality control Deptt
Modification and Cost & Revenue Saving • Restructured the plant Layout arrangement of suspension
system (As previously the plant layout of suspension
system was not proper and transportation cost from one
deptt. to other was very high and time consuming and
lots of labour loss). By proper layout and
recommissioning of M/c's, it improved transportation
system, and helped in time saving.
• Provision of Bio-Toilet system in fast passanger trains like
Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Air Conditioned Coaches.
• Safety wire rope arrangements for Break Beam in Braking
system.
• Manufacturing of componsating rings from scrap (Bolster
spring coupler) which was previously manufactured from
2500 x 1250 x 5 mm plates - lots of revenue saved by
utilizing scrap by this method.
Welding and Fabrication • Replacement of orthodox oil cooled welding machines to
most modern invertor based welding plants. Latest IGBT
technology, portable and light weight with the help of
commission of such welding plants, power saving up to
50%.
• Commission of shot blasting plant instead of old sand
blasting for cleaning of components, environmental
friendly, less hazardous to the health of workers and safe.
• Transfer from SMAW M/cs (Shielded metal arc welding)
to advance MIG/MAG welding plant for continuous
welding of large components. It drastically reduced the
consumption of electrodes, stub - end losses reduced
very much and cost saved. Quality of weld improved very
much, weld defects also minimized.
Inspection and Quality Control • Prepared WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) / PQR
for most of the weldments like Bolster, shell, storage
tank, static / rotating equipments with the help of
preparation of above procedures properties improved
and by application of best procedure cost is reduced very
much.
• Standard gauges made in such a way to inspect joint fit
up before welding. During welding and structures in
progress and on completed jobs.
• Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Plans formed
for various processes .
• Concept of three C's (Cost, Customer & Change) is
adopted.
Training • Organized skill Development Programmes in various
areas.
• Introduced Welders qualification System up to AR2
• (Acceptance Requirement Level-2) as per ASME Section -
IX. Previously welders were categorized in Indian Standards
System in groups A, B, C.
• Interacted with external training institute like -
WRI, RWTI to uplift the knowledge of staff in welding,
quality improvement, safety.
