Engineering Lead - UK and France
Responsible for the management and coordination of multi-discipline engineering teams in delivery of buildings and systems for the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station, supporting design, procurement and construction phases. Scope includes but not limited to:
Auxiliary Boiler Building / Auxiliary Steam System; ~£30m, boiler house consisting of 3No. 27MW immersion boilers and support systems. The steam system aids start up and shut of the nuclear reactors.
Simulator Training Centre: ~£25m, a 5900m2 (GEA) training centre housing a replica of the stations control room, various other process simulators and office space for an occupancy of 350 individuals.
Framatome Warehouse; ~£10m a 3900m2 (GEA) duel use building containing storage space, 20Te gantry crane, data centre, I&C store, office space and workshops. The facility supports primary circuit & auxiliary equipment assemblage during station construction and post construction phase as a permanent asset for the station operation.
Principal accountabilities include assessment and mediation of stakeholder requirements, preparation of technical specifications and ‘Invitation To Tender' documentation, direct management of contractors and consultants, definition and undertaking of surveillance activities (design), management of technical and contractual interfaces, management of change and non-conformances, technical issue resolution, risk management, value engineering, optioneering, chairing design review & constructability workshops and application of quality management procedures & best practice.
(Civil/Structural)
Responsible for the portfolio of Civil assets; 2No. reactor buildings (including primary circuits) plus all other site structures (nuclear & conventional) at Bradwell Nuclear Power Station during the accelerated decommissioning programme.
Duties were primarily associated with the management of all civil structures, structural (seismic) enhancements, structural integrity inspections and assessments of concrete and steel structures maintaining Regulatory and Statutory Compliance. Responsible for the engineering strategies for the assets to deliver long term health and providing recommendations for asset investments.
Responsible for technical reviews and technical advice and guidance to all Bradwell (Civil) project teams in respect to maintaining structural integrity during construction (and demolition activities) to ensure compliance with design intent, specification and drawings. Provided support of safety case development & functional requirements for safe operation. Responsible for plant modifications, approving relevant documentation for assigned systems such as Technical Specifications, Work Instructions, Method Statements, Quality Plans, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments.
Resident Engineer for a QC/QA 1 structural steelwork remediation project (building structure, Nuclear Safety Measure (NSM): Class 1 \[Hazard Category 5\]) at AWE Aldermaston to address extensive corrosion issues and global stability issues. Responsible for implementing design work, representing the client and managing contractors & consultants - regular interface with the client project team and site operators and attendance of design/construction workshops with multi discipline engineering & construction teams.
Oversaw all site works ensuring quality control requirements were met and any non-conformances are reported. Reviewer of all Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) & Inspection Test Plans/ Quality Control Plans (ITPs/QCPs). Heavily involved in the component fabrication process.
Completed all structural assessments of the existing structure providing recommendations where necessary. Site work included restoring original section properties for a number of primary structural elements, installation of a new longitudinal bracing system and installation of a new cladding system (and secondary steelwork). Additionally, provided support to Jacobs' design house in production of structural design calculations for the works.
Embedded within EDF NNB Construction Engineering department in the design stage of Hinkley Point C Civil Infrastructure - predominantly working with the Roads & Networks team with a daily interface with the Buildings team - (roads & networks included temporary & permanent systems - roads, gravity drainage systems, pressurised systems (potable & fire fighting) and power (high & low voltage) & telecommunications).
Responsibilities included the management of consultants for various design packages - surveillance of deliverables, value engineering, technical reviews and assessment of technical queries, input data coordination, single point of contact for EDF French entities and assessment of site construction sequencing and contract/technical interfaces. Lead Engineer for the coordination of the permanent & temporary systems (construction sequencing) using 3D & 4D models (PDMS & Navisworks).
Heysham 1 Power Station, Reserve Feed Water Services Replacement Pipework, Mechanical & Piping Team, Heysham/Knutsford, UK
Responsible for the design of replacement pipe supports for a number of existing pipelines. Tasks included surveying the existing pipe installation, assessing constructability due to challenging site constraints, developing and managing the Civil/Structural programme, and development of the detailed design deliverables (including specification, structural calculations, basis of design, & drawings).
Hinkley Point B/Hunterston B Power Stations, Diverse Hold Down Project, Mechanical & Piping Team
Nuclear & Defence / Ports & Maritime
Various residential and commercial projects, assisting Project Managers and Site Engineers. Tasks included monitoring and tracking contractor progress as well as completing inspections of building structural elements.
Assisted Site Engineers on a range of contracts working closely with Building Contractors. Significant experience was gained in building construction (residential), bulk-muck shifting (predominantly in rock), road and footpath construction, trenching/ducting for services, laying foul and storm sewers, placing of reinforced concrete and carrying out health and safety checks.
