I am, Dr. Hamad Bakr AlOlayan joined SABIC in 1980 after graduation from King Saud University in the capacity of Research Chemist. In 1982 I became Product Development Manager. I was responsible for the development of SABIC products at that time and establishes contacts with potential SABIC customers. His contributions assist SABIC management to enter new Petrochemical business such as Polypropylene, Polystyrene, MTBE and Polyester.
I participated in the acquisition or development of needed technologies, for these products and work with established SABIC’s teams.
In 1985, I moved to the position of Technology Planning & Evaluation Manager and was involved in licensing and intellectual property protection. I coordinated the technical and commercial evaluation of new technologies. We reviewed all agreements, compared technologies and developed the “SABIC Standard for licensing Agreements”. For the first time, they emphasized on SABIC requirements in technology transfer such as training, technical exchanges, catalyst manufacturing and linked all payments to plant deliveries and not to fixed dates.
I contributed with SABIC teams to the set-up of an independent SABIC R&D Complex and wrote plans for its establishment, where the experience of SABIC partners and licensors in conducted R&D were studied deeply and presented to SABIC management.
In this period We were able to acquire the PP catalyst production (unique in the world) in license
I became Director Technical Services Laboratories Dept. in 1989 and directed the day to day research and physical and mechanical testing for the synthetic fibres, fertilizer and specialty chemicals group.
Applying SABIC recruitments policy, I was able to recruit high caliber to run the department total staffing reach 54 members, more than 12 of them having Ph.D.
I was appointed Director Technology Department in July 1995 and was responsible for all technology plans in view of SABIC’s strategic objectives. I managed three major corporate efforts: Technology Licensing, Intellectual Property Protection and External Research Coordination. I wrote many articles which published in well known journal in addition he prepared many presentations related to his work in Petrochemical industry.

soon I graduated from university I joined Saudi Basic Industrial cooperation (SABIC )
I witnessed the growth of SABIC through years until became of the the world giant company

of steering committee for third and fourth and fifth sabic plastics forum in 2003, 2004 and 2007 respectively which were directed to local plastics customers
