Benchmarking of Rail and Small Transit Systems (2017 - 2018)
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had asked Atkins to prepare a technical review of
various rail and small transit systems currently in the marketplace. The study was part of the wider
Dubai Rail Master Plan Update project being undertaken by Atkins.
• Conducted research on passenger rail transit systems for top 10 manufacturers by annual
volume output.
• Liaised with manufactures in person to collect information to fill gaps from the preceding desk-top
research on passenger rail transit system specifications.
• Prepared a Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE) - a questionnaire template to collect relevant data in a
consistent manner from all manufacturers.

Oman National Spatial Strategy (2017)
Atkins had been commissioned by the Supreme Council of Planning, Oman to lead a national level
study in developing spatial strategies for each of the 11 governorates in the country. Atkins, as the
Main Consultant Engineer (MCE) led teams of 4 sub consultants to conduct national level surveys or
the NTS across Oman.
• Assisted in the development of traffic and behaviour survey methodologies.
• Provided support in reviewing survey proposals from sub consultant to ensure compliance with
MCE standards.
• Developed a survey supervision plan to be used for overseeing survey quality and execution.
• Assisted in the development of survey forms to be used during the surveys.
• Conducted field autopsy of over a 100 sites in Al Batinah North, Buraimi and Muscat
governorates of Oman to assess site conditions for the survey.
• Developed a health and safety Method Statement and Risk Assessment Forms to identify safe
working protocols during field autopsy.
Safety Audits of Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) at Dubai Airports (2016 - 2017)
Atkins had been commissioned by Dubai Airports (DA) to conduct health and safety review of the
airport’s Baggage Handling Systems (BHS).
• Conducted a comprehensive review of the BHS facility under Concourses A, B and C which
included identification of high risk areas in the BHS, locating and collecting evidence of
hazardous areas in the BHS and a general assessment of the working conditions.
• Performed extensive site visits to audit the work environment and collect photographic evidence
of all hazardous areas.
• Prepared risk assessment forms to document the observations from the field visit.
• Proposed mitigations to the risks identified in the report.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Initiative Study (2016)
Atkins had been commissioned by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in the UAE to
develop a guidance document for implementation of public EV charging infrastructure.
• Conducted a literature review of international case studies to evaluate best practices deployed in
the implementation of EV charging infrastructure in major cities.
• Integrated international best practices in EV charging infrastructure design with Dubai parking
and road design standards to identify design constraints and propose mitigations.
• My inputs in the study comprised of detailed siting guidelines, physical layout of EV charge
points, electrical supply, parking controls and management, access considerations and traffic
management, pedestrians, branding Right of Way, signage and wayfinding.
Dubai Airports Airside Staff Bus Stop Design (URS) (2016)
Dubai Airports commissioned Atkins to develop a standard for designing airside passenger bus stops
for airside staff at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
• Performed a literature review of global bus stop design requirement to bench mark on
international best practices.
• Conducted site visits to comprehend the dynamics of airside bus operations and existing bus
stop conditions used by the airside staff.
• Airside bus stops at DXB were assessed for safety, capacity and demand to ensure a safe
waiting environment.
• Incorporated international best practices in bus stop design with local road design manual to
ensure all design requirements meet compliance with Dubai roads standards.
