Seconded to Basrah Gas Company (BGC) - A joint venture of Shell Gas Iraq BV, as part of the Engineering Team resident at Contractor’s (GE Oil & Gas) office in Florence, Italy
• Manage the Quality function, in line with Company Standards, and focus on continual improvement through effective implementation of Quality Management Systems.
• Oversee Contractors, Sub Contractors, Suppliers and Vendors’ Quality to ensure compliance to Company Standards.
• Prepare Quality related procedures and promote quality awareness among Project Team and Contractors by sharing lateral learning and lessons learned from other Projects.
• Review and approve Contractor and Sub Contractor Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans & Work Instructions.
• Prepare audit plans, conduct audits (Internal and external (Vendors/Sub-vendors)), maintain audit records and report recommendations for continual improvement.
• Support Project Managers and Contract Managers by providing expert advice/guidance on Quality Management requirements.
• Analyze performance of internal policies and procedures to ensure that necessary updates are completed and that corrective actions are taken.
• Monitor, analyze and report project quality KPIs, concerns, and develop trends.
• Implement technical integrity verification processes during design, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and operations phases.
• Ensure non-conforming products are identified and controlled to prevent the inadvertent usage, NCR tracking, corrective and preventive actions and closeout records.
• Ensure applicable oil and gas Codes and Standards are available, known and implemented by the Project Team.
• Support and coordinate Third Party Inspection (TPI) where needed for Vendor supplied products/services.
• Documenting, Implementing and Maintaining Quality Management Systems as per ISO 9001:2008 and API Q1 for manufacturing Wellhead, Christmas Tree, and Drilling Equipments as per API 6A, API 16A and API 7-1.
Auditing, Continuous Improvement and Trainings
• Coordinating with external auditors for successful completion of ISO and API Audits.
• Ensuring the on time issuance of Quality Assurance Manuals, Project Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, Testing Procedures, Work Instructions, Final Data Books and other Quality assurance documents.
• Analyzing non conformances and providing suggestions for continual improvement of the quality management system.
• Performing Vendor Assessment audits, analyzing vendors’ system and qualifying them for continued business.
• Organizing in-house trainings on Awareness to QMS, Inspection activities, Codes and Specifications etc.
Welding and Non Destructive Testing
• Reviewing and Approving Welding Procedure Specifications, Qualifying Welders & Welding Operators in Compliance with ASME Sec IX and other applicable specifications.
• Developing NDE Written Practice, Preparing NDE Procedures (for RT, UT, MT and PT) and Qualifying NDE personnel, in consultation with company NDE Level III.
• Providing necessary technical inputs to purchasing, engineering, marketing, estimation and manufacturing teams.
IN CHARGE QUALITY CONTROL (STORAGE TANK CONSTRUCTION)
• Providing technical assistance to a team of Mechanical and Welding QC Inspectors at various project sites.
• Interfacing with clients and construction teams in resolving technical issues.
• Planning inspection activities and monitoring project quality index (PQI).
PROJECT QUALITY CONTROL AND DOCUMENTATION:
• Reviewing Drawings, Contracts, Client Specifications and International Codes for developing Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), Project Specific Procedures and Method Statements.
• Reviewing Weld Maps, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder/Welding Operator Performance Qualifications (WPQ / WOPQ) to ensure their compliance with project requirements.
• Organizing Pre-inspection Meetings and Weekly Site Meetings with clients to discuss and resolve quality related issues.
• Reviewing and compiling Inspection Records before submission to AI and Client.
PROCESS QUALITY CONTROL:
• Helping maintain quality systems by assuring that personnel, procedures and practices are appropriate to comply with customer requirements and specifications.
• Coordinating with clients, third parties, NDT engineers and welding engineers to plan inspections and resolve bottlenecks.
• Witnessing and preparing reports for major inspections.
• Dealing with the plant environment; purchasing, engineering, marketing and manufacturing teams.
AUDITING AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
• Auditing internal processes, establishing sources of progress, measuring results and arranging necessary trainings.
• Auditing vendor/suppliers’ systems and participating in vendor evaluations.
• Analyzing non conformances and providing suggestions for continual improvement of the quality management system.
• Coordinating with external auditors for successful completion of ISO audits and ASME Joint Reviews.
• Developed, documented, implemented, and managed complete quality control system, as described in the ASME and ISO Quality Control Manuals.
• Prepared ASME and ISO Manuals, NDE procedures, Quality System Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), WPSs, PQRs, WPQs/WOPQs, Weld matrices, & Weld maps.
• Supervised Incoming & In-process inspections by coordinating with In-house QC inspectors, Clients, Third party inspectors and ASME Authorized Inspectors.
• Witnessed and prepared reports for major inspections like; Major fit-up inspections, Final Visual and Dimensional Inspections, Pneumatic Tests, Hydrostatic Tests, Arrangements for Post weld heat treatments & Final shipment inspections.
• Prepared of WPSs, PQRs, WPQs / WOPQs, Weld matrices & Weld maps.
• Arranged and Witnessed Welder Qualification Tests and Prepared WPQs.
Also Involved In:
• Preparation of Project Schedules; Coordination with different departments, suppliers and subcontractors, coordination with clients as a single point contact.
• Attaining pre-qualifications with major Oil and Gas Organizations, prepare quotations for various inquiries, and conduct visits to prospective Clients.
• Creating necessary safety awareness among the staff by toolbox talks and basic safety trainings.
• Arranging various training programs. (This included a NDE Level II certification program. Candidates from several organizations participated in the program and it generated excellent revenue to the company.)
