I am appointed as the Regional SHEQ Leader for the Eastern Cape.
I manage the health and safety compliance of several service centre's.
I am responsible for the following:
1. Risk Assessments
2. Incident Investigations on iCare
3. Near Miss reporting
4. Hazard reporting
5. GAP Audits
6. Sustainability reporting
7. Medical surveillance monitoring
8. SHEQ Objectives
9. Monthly Health and Safety Statistics
10. Cell meeting
11. Health and Safety Committee meeting
12. Management Review Meetings.
I am also involved within quality, ensuring that all quality documentation is implemented, employees trained and maintained.
When required I also assist with Customer complaints and completing the necessary reports with corrective and preventative actions.
Monthly health and safety audits.

Management of annual medical certificates of fitness.
Annual health and safety budgets.
Compiling company specific health and safety management system.

Projects JSA/risk assessment.
Project specific safe work procedures.
Project fall protection plans.
Hazardous chemicals management.
Training staff on safety data sheet content.
Inspection of hcs storage facilities.
Fire Extinguisher servicing management.
Fire Extinguisher monthly inspections.
Internal fire extinguisher training.
Project health and safety management.
Project JSA and general risk assessment.
Project health and Safety inspections.
Project health and safety audits.
Part of health and safety meetings.
General meetings with management.
Site meetings with clients.
Internal health and safety training with employees.
Provide site safety Induction of all new employees, subcontractor workers and/or visitors.
Review site safety induction as project progresses
Attend HSE and production meetings as may be required.
Participate proactively in management walkabouts and ensure all deviations are corrected.
Attend health & safety committee meetings & advise on matters that require specific inputs
Ensure company and appointed subcontractors adhere to legislation
Co-ordinate & facilitate risk assessments, safe work procedures/methodology with the relevant experts
Ensure current risk assessments are reviewed and advise management on any risks that have been
identified during risk assessments and site walkabouts.
Drafting of Site specific Risk Assessments and SWP’s
Conduct monthly audits on subcontractors
Conduct monthly grading audits
Stop any unsafe act or condition immediately by means of raising NCR’s and report to site management,
identify possible corrective and preventive actions.
Facilitate all incident & accident investigations and ensure all corrective and preventative actions are
taken
Evaluate effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions
Ensure all documentation is completed and forwarded to required recipients as required by the HSE Plan
by the required deadlines
Ensure that toolbox talks are held on a regular basis on site specific issues.
Safety awareness campaigning
Ensure that housekeeping schedules are adhered to by conducting constant on site evaluation of the
works areas and reporting non conformances as soon as they arise to the relevant responsible persons.
Liaising with the regional & group HSE managers to ensure compliance and corporate image is being
upheld.
Ensure appropriate and adequate HSE signage as required.
Ensure that all checklist are completed daily, weekly or monthly as required
Ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environmental Plan is implemented and Site specific
Portable Electrical Tools to be checked daily and any defects to be taken out of system for repair or
replace
Planning and coordination of Medicals
All stacking and storage to be controlled - ensure stacking done safely (placing and removing)
Fire equipment and emergency procedures including evacuation
Controlling all hazardous and flammable substances
Doing internal training as required
Ensuring OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 compliances
Ensuring that fall protection plan is task & site specific
Communicating fall protection plan to employees and ensuring that all employees are following the fall
protection plan accordingly
Reviewing fall protection plan as needed
Ordering & issuing PPE
Ensuring Compliance with Transnet Health and Safety Policies and Procedures as set out by ECI JV.
Ensuring compliance with Transnet Environmental Policies and Procedures as set out by ECI JV.
