Radio Access Network Planning Chief Engineer at Mobily

- 2G: Responsible for Hajj Network (pilgrimage season in Makkah) RF Planning since the start of Mobily service (6 years):
- Hajj Network now serves up to 4, 000, 000 subscribers with more than 450 sites.
- Making the frequency plan according to the band available and configuration needed.
- Doing the RF expansion plan (additional TRUs, antennae and new sites) for capacity and congestion relief.
- MSC’s and BSC’s plan for Hajj network (expansion and new borders)
- Re-homing plan for Hajj sites.
- Preparing the RFQ for all required equipments of Hajj new sites.

- 3G: RNC performance monitoring, rehoming plan for RNC’s and NodeB’s, RFQ preparation (input from planning and optimization).

- 2G/3G: Responsible for the indoor RF plans for high and VIP buildings like towers and big malls (link budget, capacity and number of required indoor antennae).

- Planning to cover highway roads and distant villages in the western region:
- Deciding how many sites needed in villages.
- How many sites a road needs for coverage.
- Sites info (antenna heights, azimuth, cells configurations).
- Using RF planning tools like TEMS Cellplanner Universal to do coverage predictions.

- Doing sites' surveys:
- Choosing the best candidate which can serve the meant planned area.
- Deciding the site structure; square base, wall mount or green field.
- Generating coverage predictions for road sites using TEMS Cell Planner universal (TCPU).
- Using different tools like MAPINFO and GoogleEarth in RF planning.

GSM Optimization Engineer at Advanced Electronics Company

1- Network Optimization:
- Optimisation to the radio parameters, proposing radio site locations for optimisation purposes and handled performance duties like monitoring HO counters, traffic, problem analysis.
- Spotting the badly performing sites according to the KPI's specified by the operator like TCH&SDCCH drop rates and TCH&SDCCH blocking.

- Receiving complaints from VIP’s and Clients and investigate their problems in a timely manner keeping the quality of work and customer satisfaction in perspective.
- Following up with the complaints until the problems get cleared and good quality of service is perceived by customers.

- Troubleshooting of the problematic areas using TEMS.
- Analyzing the drive test Log-files using MAPINFO & GIMS and highlighting the service-affecting problems e.g. Low Power RTU’s, High RxQual, and Dropped Calls, for which then actions can be taken.
- Going through the daily stats and taking actions according to defective values found.
- I was involved in a big project to drive testing and putting new sites to support poor coverage and capacity in the western region network. The plan included many cities in Saudi like Jizan, Taif, Abha, Baha and Najran.
- I was involved with the Swap out of Lucent network to Ericsson and Nokia in the central, western and southern regions of Saudi where I do acceptance test for the radio of new sites.
- Providing on-the-job training for new technicians on Drive testing scenarios.
- Scheduling regular and extensive measurements which are taken for both preventive and corrective procedures. This aids in accurate network optimization decision-making.
- Archiving the Drive Test Log-files in a systematic way to ensure they are always available when needed.
- Managing Field Measurements resources i.e. Manpower (Drive Testers), Test Equipment, and vehicles including drawing up of timesheets.
- Drawing up of Drive test routes and defining Drive-test clusters in conjunction with the relevant Optimization engineers.
