Squamish Nation is the largest First Nations Indigenous group in Western Canada. The Nation owns or controls 28 square kilometres of prime developable real estate in the Vancouver region. I manage new business development projects with a focus on residential, industrial and commercial real estate development.
BCIIF is a provincial crown corporation managing $400m in project financing and $90m in venture capital funds. Reporting to the CEO:
• Led investment management for three venture capital funds, providing advice and oversight on portfolio selection, performance and reporting.
• Developed and implemented new systems and procedures to strengthen contract management, budget and spending controls, and service delivery oversight for outsourced corporate services.
• Developed and drove strategically targeted outreach program to raise the fund profile, build sector linkages, and strengthen pipeline of investments in the US and Canada.
Planetworks is a Vancouver-based engineering firm with worldwide project experience. Projects undertaken on behalf of the company and other clients involved developing detailed commercial business plans, financing and cash flow analysis, and pricing recommendations for large scale broadband internet networks, including:
• $25m fibre optic cable linking the Yukon with southern Canada.
• Two projects linking the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine fibre optic cable with networks in Liberia ($50m) and Sierra Leone ($70m), successfully launched in 2011 and 2012.
• A project using ACE fibre to link São Tomé and Príncipe to the African mainland, successfully launched in 2015.
Senior Director (2008-2010); Senior Manager (2007-2008), Investment Management, Group Finance
Ooredoo is a telecom operator with 100m customers, $26bn in assets and $9bn in revenue serving South East Asia and Middle East markets. Reported to the CFO and promoted to senior director after the first year, led a team of five from analyst to associate director level. Accountabilities included:
• Led financial planning and analysis (FP&A), improving Board reporting, capex budgeting and KPI.
• Following a $3.7bn acquisition, integrated new subsidiaries to improve information flow, budgeting, performance reviews, and management incentive targets.
• Conceived, tendered and project-managed $1.6m group-wide implementation of IBM Cognos Controller ERP for financial reporting, greatly improving access to accurate performance data.
• FP&A lead on deal team achieving Qtel’s first investment-grade credit ratings and highly successful $5bn bond issue through financial modeling, presentations, due diligence and bond ratings by S&P, Moody’s and Fitch.
Reporting to the Executive Director and focused on attracting investment from American and Asian firms in B.C. energy and technology sectors. Achievements included:
• Negotiated $80m investment by China’s Wuxi Seamless Oil Pipe Co. Ltd to supply the petroleum industry.
• Led external stakeholder and proponent meetings and briefed Ministers and Senior Ministry Executive on policy to accelerate and diversify foreign direct investment.
• Led marketing and business development missions to Los Angeles, Atlanta and Tokyo to promote B.C.’s competitive advantages, sector strengths and investment opportunities.
• Developed rapid response capability providing corporate investors with incisive business cases for startups and expansions in B.C.
This award-winning private equity investor had $2bn under management by 100 staff in 12 countries worldwide. Reporting to the team Director, accountabilities included:
• Led financial analysis, investment structuring and selective due diligence of $2.4bn in prospective investments, and presented compelling opportunities to executive team.
• Raised CDC’s profile and investment opportunities through field reconnaissance, conference presentations, and expanding the investment strategy and regional contact networks.
• Refined company targeting in Central America resulting in profitable $20m investment in a cellular operator.
Reporting to the VP Finance, led operations oversight, performance analysis, and quarterly investor relations guidance for telecom investments in Asia Pacific. Achievements included:
• Oversaw joint venture company in Taiwan and built convincing financial analysis substantiating $800m company valuation, yielding >100% annualized investment gain at time of sale to partners.
• Represented BCI finance during sale of joint ventures in China, Shandong and Yantai Bell, leading to profitable return of ~$70m to shareholders.
• Led financial, engineering and legal due diligence team on $100m investment opportunity in Thailand.
Reporting to the VP Project Finance and leading a team of three analysts, led business planning, risk assessment, loan and investment structuring, and valuation of infrastructure projects generating $500m in equipment sales in North and South America and Asia. Created and implemented innovative, high-impact process supporting Controller’s office to forecast investment commitments and cash requirements associated with manufacturing and financing equipment sales.
Working individually and on project teams, completed numerous market entry, strategy, and due diligence assignments for telecommunications operators, manufacturers, governments, banks and investors in North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
All coursework and exams are completed and the Certificate will be awarded in September 2017. Henley ranks in the top 50 business schools by the Economist and Financial Times.

I served as a research assistant, programmer and writer/editor of software user guides for a leading professor in applied statistics and econometrics, undertook consulting assignments for clients in universities, government and industry, and served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate students.
