Helping to promote and restore patient’s health as they prescribe, provide, delegate, evaluate and coordinate comprehensive professional nursing care through the use of the nursing process for patients of all ages, gender, cultures, and background; provide physical and psycho-social support to patients, friends, and families.Provides case management by being a patient advocate, resource and contact person for patients.Provides basic education information to patients and family, focusing on self-care appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs.
• Assess the physical and mental status of the patients
• Continuous assessment of the patient’s clinical status by direct observations.
• Pre and Post operative care of surgical patients.
• Admission and management of critical patients.
• Preparation of patient unit, assisting helpless patients, meeting nutritional needs ryles tube insertion and feeding, suctioning.
• Performing various types of dressing, sutures and clip removal.
• Maintaining isolation techniques.
• Oxygen administration, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, Defibrillating the patients.
• Monitoring arterial blood pressure, CVP and taking ECG.
• Assist the doctors in performing diagnostic and therapeutic produces like insertion of central line, endo tracheal intubations, Lumbar Puncture, Pleural tapping, dressing, bone marrow aspirations, inter costal tube insertion and drainage.
• Prepare the patients for procedures like X-ray, CT scan, ECG, IVP, Barium Meal, Sonography as ordered.
• Check narcotic drugs at each shift and record in the register.
• Provide emotional support to the patients and relatives.
• Maintain clean and safe equipment, maintain patient’s records.
• Maintaining inventory.
• Send diet sheet to the dietitian according to the doctor’s order.
• Demonstrate knowledge of legal implication of nursing action.
• Rehabilitation of stroke patients.
• Working with universal precautions.
• Make good relationship with colleagues and supervisors.
• Anticipation and prevention of complications, emergency and resuscitation treatments, oxygen therapy, starting and maintaining IV infusion.
• Supervision and orientation of students and trainees, participation in stall development programmes.
• Transfer and discharge of patients.
• Keep the dignity and status of the profession, reports verbally by going bed to bed, writing the progress of the patients at each shift change
