• Assist research investigators by performing moderately complex research and experimentation following established protocols.
• Performs various clerical duties including typing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, preparing and maintaining bibliographies, and completing applications and forms.
• Performs various editorial duties; writes, reviews and edits various materials for publication; prepares publication schedules; orders books and other publications.
• Performs supervisory and training duties involving lower level employees; attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups.
• Compiles processes and analyzes data; records research procedures and results; files and maintains records; codes data for input for electronic data processing; inputs and retrieves data using computers.
• Analysis of samples using various instrumental & wet chemistry methods. Food Testing-media preparation, pathogen detection: manual with culture media and automated with VIDAS and Dynex DSX.
• Calculation of results either manually or using MS Excel.
• Completion of daily quality control samples.
• Entering data onto ELMS.
• Performing equipment checks and calibrations.
• Assisting within the Microbiology laboratory.
• Communication with customers regarding the progress of samples through the laboratory.
• Raw Milk tests- Raw herd testing including fat, lactose, protein, somatic cell count, urea and antibiotic preparation.

• Using, cleaning and maintaining various types of equipment.
• Handling and storing chemicals and other materials.
